Petition

Please SIGN: Protect the mangroves and tropical forests of Brazil’s Tauá-Mirim!

Dear friends of the rainforests,

Brazil’s Tauá-Mirim region, home to 2,200 families who rely on fishing and farming, is under threat from infrastructure and industrial projects. The region’s mangroves are vital: they serve as breeding grounds for marine life and act as a carbon sink, helping to stabilize the climate.

Since 2003, local communities have called for the area to be designated a Reserva Extrativista (RESEX), a type of protected area that ensures both conservation and traditional rights. However, the government has delayed action, playing into the hands of destructive “developers” in the meantime.

We urge President Lula da Silva, Minister Marina Silva, and other leaders to act now. Please support our petition to protect Tauá-Mirim and its people by signing today.

TAKE ACTION

Thanks for being involved,

John Hayduska

Joint statement

Indonesia: An urgent call to protect biodiversity

The Tripa peat bog on Sumatra highlights Indonesia’s ongoing failure to meet its climate and biodiversity protection obligations. This crucial habitat for orangutans and tigers continues to be destroyed for palm oil plantations, even though two palm oil companies were convicted of illegal burning practices years ago. The Tripa peat forest is currently being cleared once more, its soils drained, and oil palm seedlings planted.

The “Coalition to Save the Tripa Peat Bog, Orangutan Habitat” (Koalisi Selamatkan Rawa Tripa, Habitat Orangutan), a group of 25 Indonesian organizations and Rainforest Rescue, is urging the Indonesian government and judiciary to take immediate, consistent action, as the Tripa peat bog is now in an extremely critical state.
