Imagine a community event that
brings people together, only to discover it's centered
around tormenting and injuring animals.
As a society, we'd never allow it! But we already do.
This is exactly what happens
at rodeos, where "tradition" masks a over a century of
cruelty in Canada.
At the Calgary Stampede in
Alberta this summer, the brutality was on full display:
a young cow died after having its neck twisted
until it broke, and three horses were so severely
injured during a race that they had to be
euthanized.
Rodeos brand extreme
suffering for animals as entertainment as they are
beaten, prodded, and forced into dangerous
situations. Since 1986, at least 105
animals have died at the Calgary Stampede alone, a stark
reminder of the violence these events perpetuate.
Despite animal cruelty laws in Canada, rodeos seem to
get a pass in the name of ticket sales and
spectacle.
We must act now to end this injustice.

Alberta’s lawmakers pass legislation to ban rodeos and
shut down the Calgary
Stampede!
