Hi,
Do you know what a “disco soup” is? It is when people come together to prepare food, eat, and celebrate as a form of protest. Last weekend, thousands of farmers and consumers in 35 cities, towns and villages all over Europe met in peaceful demonstrations, protest picnics and disco soups to oppose the EU’s massive financial support for industrial farming.
We don’t want animals to suffer, bees to be killed, groundwater poisoned and small-scale farmers pushed to ruin. But this is what happens - and will continue to happen! - if the EU keeps subsidising big industrialised agriculture. Decisions about the future of European agriculture will be taken in the coming months - this is why we come together, to show EU decision makers that we want sustainable farming that is fair for producers, less polluting and free of animal cruelty.
In three weeks, we will bring our action to Brussels. We will show up in front of the building where EU Ministers of Agriculture will be deciding about our food. We’ll bring vegetables, pots, pans and cutlery with us. We’ll bring bales of straw, banners and posters and join the many farmers who represent their countries in our common protest. We’ll cook for the politicians, a great chance to deliver our message in a memorable and visible way.
Will you chip in to help make sure the message gets across? All we need is 20 of us donating 30 euro to pay for each banner and only 8 euro will pay for a poster. With more we can make this campaign even bigger.

Ever-more people recognize the importance of good and healthy food. They don’t buy intensive farming products, and choose seasonal, organic and local ones. But consumer choices are only a first step. Nothing will really change as long as large industrial farms receive the lion’s share of EU agricultural funds.
Our protest in Brussels is placed and timed for maximum impact. The Ministers of Agriculture in the European Union are negotiating the reform of the Common Agricultural Policy (CAP). The current agricultural policy takes up almost 40% of the EU’s total budget [1], and has massive influence on how our food is produced and distributed.
The European days of action were already a huge success, thanks to a strong alliance of 80 organisations from 22 European countries. People from all over Europe already signed the open letter, [2] and more people are signing every day. But to change the minds of politicians we have to keep the pressure up and meet decision-makers personally.
On the day of the protest, we’ll show up in Brussels in the morning, when the delegates from all EU member states enter the building, with breakfast and banners. Our partners are already talking with the Austrian delegation holding the EU presidency. When the delegates leave the building for lunch, we will deliver our open letter - and we'll invite them to have a meal with us outside the building.
Having an all-day action outside the meeting venue is the most efficient way to get our message across. All the Ministers will notice us, and a lot of journalists will spend the day waiting for the negotiation results and looking out for good images. They will talk to us and take pictures of the protest, and we will make it into the news.
Please help with your donation to make our protest colorful, diverse and interesting for the journalists.

All farmers love their soil and their animals, but still too many are stuck in an agricultural system that is harmful. Farmers need to be encouraged and rewarded for producing better and healthier food and protecting water, air, soil and the ecosystem.
For nature and better food for all,
Mika (Bordeaux), Jörg (Lübeck), Virginia (Madrid), and the rest of us at WeMove.EU
PS: We demand sustainable agriculture that is fair and healthy for producers, consumers and the environment, and humane to animals. We urgently need a fundamental reform of the Common Agricultural Policy. Please donate to make it happen.
