On June 21, during a
session in Bonn, a representative of
Azerbaijan's Ministry of Foreign Affairs
announced that the COP29-initiated “Baku
Dialogue on Water for Climate Action” has
already united 72 countries and produced a
roadmap for joint action on water and
climate.
A side event was held
in Bishkek as part of the UN Climate Change
Conference in Bonn, where Kyrgyzstan presented
initiatives to protect mountain ecosystems and
strengthen international cooperation.
Discussions focused on establishing coordination
mechanisms and funds to support mountain
regions, as well as preparations for the Second
Bishkek Global Mountain Summit in
2027.
Experts recommend
planting plane trees, oaks, and chestnuts along
streets and sidewalks to provide critical shade
during hot weather. In June 2024, Tajikistan
adopted a National Greening Program aimed at
combating climate change. Over 3 million trees
have already been planted under the plan, with
more than 2 billion projected by
2040.
A new regulation allows
regional and Minsk city executive committees to
issue permits for construction projects that
deviate from approved urban planning
documents.
Kazakhstan’s Ministry
of Ecology has outlined measures to improve air
quality in Almaty, focusing on a transition to
cleaner transport, modernization of thermal
power plants, greening efforts, and stricter
emissions control. The city has banned the
purchase of new diesel buses and plans to add
600 gas-powered buses and 200 electric buses by
2025, aiming to raise the share of eco-friendly
public transport to 95%.
On June 17, Deputy
Minister of Environment Aram Meimarian
reiterated the country’s goal to reach net-zero
emissions by 2050. Key measures include a
nationwide transition to electric vehicles, the
development of a circular economy, and stricter
environmental standards.
In addition to ACWA
Power, the project involves the Asian
Development Bank, Saudi Exim Bank, Asian
Infrastructure Investment Bank, the Dutch
Entrepreneurial Development Bank, and Standard
Chartered Bank. The "Nukus-2" project includes
the construction of a 200 MW wind power plant
and a 100 MW battery energy storage
system.
Five UN special
rapporteurs have addressed the Government of
Kyrgyzstan, opposing the cancellation of the
trolleybus system in Bishkek. They reminded the
authorities that Kyrgyzstan is a party to the
Paris Agreement and is obliged to reduce
emissions while safeguarding the human right to
a healthy environment and a decent
life.
The country aims to cut
emissions by 70% by 2030, attract €30 billion in
investment, and strengthen resilience to climate
disasters, which already cost Moldova 1.3% of
its GDP annually. Key focus areas include
agricultural reform, clean energy, circular
economy, and municipal
support.
Starting autumn 2025,
businesses using coal or anthracite to heat
buildings in Krasnoyarsk Krai may face fines of
up to 500,000 rubles. The proposed amendments to
the regional Code of Administrative Offenses
were introduced in the local legislative
assembly.
Diemen Wind has
submitted an environmental impact assessment
request for seven Goldwind GW182 turbines (7.5
MW each) near the village of Nakshirgele. The
project will provide 50 MW of wind capacity and
expand Georgia’s renewable energy
portfolio.
The announcement came
from the Ukrainian NGO “Living Planet,” whose
experts developed the document as part of the
“Global Eco-Industrial Parks Programme in
Ukraine: Local Implementation.” The initiative
is part of UNIDO’s global EIP
program.
