Subject: Building Public-Private Dialogue for Pandemic Prevention and Preparedness

The lack of international coordination and response to COVID-19 is considered a global failure that undermined social and economic well-being and exposed inequality around the world. Together with Geneva Health Forum, this has prompted us to extend our efforts to bridge the climate, biodiversity and health agendas and help establish a public-private dialogue beyond the health sector on how to prevent future pandemics.

The recently released Global Risk Report emphasised gaps in resilience and the impact that global pandemic can have on the increased climate, environmental and social risks. At the same time, governments are calling for a stronger international framework that will allow dealing with future health crises in a more efficient, inclusive and transparent way.

As a response to this call, the WHO is initiating the development of a comprehensive pandemic treaty to help build a global framework for pandemic prevention, preparedness and response on a national, regional and global level, planned to be presented at the 76th World Health Assembly.

This year, we are hosting the inaugural World Resilience Summit – Partnerships to Prevent Future Pandemics in collaboration with Geneva Health Forum on 24 May in Geneva, Switzerland alongside the 76th World Health Assembly, the main governing body for global health. It is an advocacy-based event of our upcoming World Health Network and will focus on prevention, preparedness and risk management measures complementing the pandemic treaty's implementation.

The Summit will convene high-level stakeholders across government leaders, experts from multilateral organisations, academics, private sector experts, technology and project developers, representatives of international organisations and establish a Scientific Committee. The Commitee will be responsible for defining recommendations for prevention, preparedness and risk management actions against pandemics and other health security risks.

After a day programme of panel and keynote sessions, the evening programme of the Summit will bring forward recommendations on the role of public-private partnerships in pandemic prevention and preparedness to high-level guests from government, permanent missions, WHO and other relevant thought leaders.

World Health Network is a developing initiative by the World Climate Foundation. It will support public-private partnerships and plans of action to find solutions to prevent future pandemics. It engages stakeholders across public and private sectors to facilitate collective action for a globally coordinated response under a One Health approach.

The cross-sectoral network will help guide adequate policies, innovations and investments in the prevention, preparedness and risk management of future pandemics.

In 2023, the roadmap of World Health Network will include a combination of in-person and digital activities throughout the year that will focus on the economic and political aspects of climate and health in the context of globalisation.
