In 2020, the world
learned firsthand how devastating a rogue virus can be.
Now, a different virus runs the risk of wreaking havoc
on the U.S.'s food supply. In one month, two
different cases of bird flu were detected in a
dairy cattle herd. This number may seem small,
but it is very alarming. Bird flu has
historically been incredibly rare in livestock, and is
instead usually found in poultry. The fact that it is
spreading to dairy cattle is dangerous for the animals
themselves and our entire food
supply.
Sign the petition to tell the
U.S. Department of Agriculture: fund a bird flu vaccine
immediately, before it is too late!
At the time
of writing, 1.25 million birds are currently impacted by
bird flu in the United States, according to the
USDA. When flocks are found to be positive for the
virus, hundreds or thousands of birds are often culled
to prevent it from spreading. And now, experts are
increasingly worried about the risks posed to cattle,
too. The United States is the richest country in
the world. If the government wants to, it can simply
adequately research and fund a vaccine. Sign the petition to join us
in urging the USDA to step up and protect the nation's
livestock and
poultry!
