A Catholic fundamentalist group is trying to strip women of the right to abortion, prevent kids from getting sex education, and forbid divorces - right here in Europe! Now its founder is running to be a judge in the European Court of Human Rights. Let’s make sure he’s rejected in a vote this Friday: |

Abortion ban. Punishing sexual education. Restrictions on divorces. This and many more similar moves have already been implemented or discussed in Poland. Can this become reality in other European countries too?
One fundamentalist Catholic group, disguised as a think-tank, stands behind all these proposals. It is called Ordo Iuris and it produces draft bills and lobbies governments. Now its founder is running for a judge in the European Court of Human Rights (ECHR). [1]
This court is a place where everyone of us can seek justice if our country fails to protect our human rights. More than 6,500 people have done so in the last year alone. [2] But with a fundamentalist judge, the chances will shrink for a ruling in favour of our rights.
On 9 April, the candidates for ECHR judges will be interviewed and approved. The committee responsible for the decision consists of politicians. If we demonstrate to them that this man is a threat to human rights, they will likely reject him.

Ordo Iuris is already present in Croatia, Lithuania, Estonia, Spain, Belgium, Germany, France, Italy and the Netherlands. Gaining a place in the ECHR is part of a long term plan to act at the European level, in order to implement a fundamentalist religious agenda.
For most people, being religious means being kind to their neighbour. But not for Ordo Iuris. Within the Catholic community, this small minority group takes religion to extremes that negate all that kindness and cause many people, especially women, to suffer.
Ordo Iuris lawyers in Poland have drafted bills to ban and penalise abortions, to criminalise sexual education and to restrict in-vitro fertilisation. They also produced a template charter text that was adopted by local governments that created Poland’s infamous “LGBT-free zones”. Recently, they even started discussing restrictions or a ban on divorce. [3]
But Poland is not enough, and now, their aim is Europe. We have shown numerous times that human rights, women’s rights, and minorities rights are at the core of what our community fights for. Together, we are in the right place to prevent people who systematically plot how to dismantle our rights from taking over our courts and institutions.

PS: In Poland, Ordo Iuris lawyers occupy important positions in government ministries, academia, the judiciary and they even advise the Polish President. [4] Now, they want to replicate this tactic in Europe. Sign and stop them.
