Upcoming webinar series on renewable energy

Three free webinars hosted by the Grantham Institute - Climate Change and Environment and the National Renewable Energy Laboratory as part of the Clean Power MOOC (Massive Open Online Course) programme.

Each webinar will include an open live Q&A where you will be able to ask questions of the experts. The webinars are intended to provide a taster of the course content.

---

  1. Webinar: What are the benefits of clean power and energy access?

Monday 11 November, 16.00-17.15 (GMT), online

This webinar will focus on the benefits of clean power (e.g. economic and health improvement) and also how to improve clean energy access across the world.  It will build on content from the first course Why move towards cleaner power.

Alyssa Gilbert (Grantham Institute) will chair a discussion with course tutor Dr Clementine Chambon of Oorja Development Solutions Ltd and Sherry Stout from the National Renewable Energy Laboratory (NREL) who will talk about the key drivers behind decarbonising the economy and how to help communities who lack access to energy become self-sufficient and find affordable clean energy solutions.

---

  1. Webinar: What can you do to support the increase uptake of renewables in your region?

Thursday 14 November, 14:00-15:15 (GMT), online

During this webinar, experts will look at how we can create a pro-renewables environment, examining policies, incentives and regulatory measures. The webinar covers content from the online course, Creating a Pro-Renewables Environment.

Dr Rob Gross, from Imperial College’s, Energy Futures Lab, will lead a discussion with course leader Dr Jeffrey Hardy and the International Renewable Energy Agency's Dr Rabia Ferroukhi.

---

  1. Webinar: What tools are needed to integrate renewables into the power sector?

Monday 9th December, 16.00-17.15 (GMT), online

The final webinar in the series will focus on the challenge of variability with increasing the share of renewables, and measures that can be taken to maintain a cost-effective and reliable electricity system.

Course contributors Dr Ajay Gambhir and Ilya Chernyakhovskiy will discuss how electricity systems work, and what technologies, policies and operating procedures can help us increase the share of renewables in the energy mix.

It builds on material from the third course of our Clean Power Program, ‘Incorporating Renewable Energy in Electricity Grids’.
