Just twelve billionaires hold more wealth than half of humanity combined—and they’re using it to undermine democracy.

But California is about to change the rules of the game with a billionaire wealth tax.

A global push can give CA decision-makers the backing they need to get the bill on the ballot.

Billionaires are fuelling authoritarianism and undermining democracy.

A new report by Oxfam reveals how dangerous extreme wealth has become. Just twelve billionaires now hold more wealth than half of humanity combined – concentrating political power in the hands of people no one elected.

That power funds the politicians and technologies that make authoritarian policies possible. It’s brokered at closed-door elite dinners, where moguls vie for Donald Trump’s attention and pledge cash and loyalty. And it bankrolls the tools of control, like the surveillance systems built by Peter Thiel-backed companies and used by ICE.

But we have the power to change this. Right now, California is fighting to put a first-of-its-kind billionaire wealth tax on the ballot. Billionaires are already threatening to flee the state simply because the tax is being debated—an intimidation tactic designed to kill it before voters ever get a say.

Public pressure is the deciding factor. If enough people speak out now, this measure can make it to a vote, break billionaire blackmail, and force the ultra-rich to finally pay their fair share. This only works if we act together, and if we act now:

Sign the petition urging California lawmakers to pass the billionaire wealth tax now.

California isn’t just any state. It’s one of the most powerful economies on the planet. What happens there sends a signal worldwide, and passing a billionaire wealth tax would prove that reining in billionaire power is possible.

The 2026 Billionaire Tax Act would impose a one-time five percent tax on Californians with more than one billion dollars in wealth, generating billions to fund health care, strengthen public schools, and support other essential public services. And because California sets the pace for policy change, success here would serve as a blueprint for the rest of the world.

Billionaire lobbyists are already working behind closed doors to kill this bill before the public can weigh in. If they succeed, the ultra-rich will keep rigging the system while the rest of us pay the price. This is the moment lawmakers need to see overwhelming public pressure to push the bill forward.

Add your name now to show that democracy answers to people — not billionaires.
