Contest “Clean Region”



“Clean Up Georgia – Phase III” Project



The House of Justice hosted a webinar on the announcement of the contest
“Clean Region” on April 26, 2017. The webinar was attended by the
representatives of the NGOs implementing the “Clean Up Georgia – Phase III”
Project (“Ecological Awareness and Waste Management”, Georgian Society of
Nature Explorers “Orchis” and “Greens Movement of Georgia/Friends of the
Earth -Georgia”), Ministry of Environment and Natural Resources Protection
of Georgia, Ministry of Justice of Georgia, Embassy of Sweden in Tbilisi and
Swedish International Development Agency (SIDA).



The meeting was organized by the Ministry of Environment and Natural
Resources Protection and Ministry of Justice in cooperation with NGOs
implementing the “Clean Up Georgia – Phase III” Project.



During the meeting, presentations on the protection of the environment and
illegal landfills were conducted by the representatives of the “Clean Up
Georgia” Project implementing partner NGOs. The presentations were
broadcasted via online conference to the representatives from Autonomous
Republic of Adjara, Kvemo Qartli, Shida Kartli, Imereti, Samtskhe-Javakheti,
Samegrelo-Zemo Svaneti and Guria regions.  Minister of Environment Gigla
Agulashvili, Acting Minister of Justice Alexander Baramidze and Deputy
Director of the Swedish International Development Agency announced a contest
“Clean Region”. The contest is a part of the “Let’s Make Georgia Cleaner
Towards Europe” campaign, which is supported by Swedish International
Development Agency.



“Let’s Make Georgia Cleaner Towards Europe”  is a clean-up campaign
initiated by the Ministry of Environment and Natural Resources Protection,
which  started on the International Earth Day on April 22, and includes the
long-term clean-up actions across the country. During a week, the clean-up
campaigns took place in ten regions at 500 locations involving approximately
22, 000 people.



The project “Clean Up Georgia-Phase III” is implemented by a Consortium of
NGOs “Ecological Awareness and Waste Management”, Georgian Society of Nature
Explorers “Orchis” and “Greens Movement of Georgia/Friends of the
Earth -Georgia” with the full financial support of the Swedish Government.
