Cocoa
production is one of the most dangerous forms of child
labor. While working long hours on cocoa farms in
West Africa — usually from sun up to sun down — young children
are exposed to dozens of different toxic pesticides and
expected to use machetes and other dangerous equipment, and
even to carry around hundreds of pounds of bean pods. Many of
these exploited children are forced into this work because of
poverty, and as a result, do not attend school and often go
many months without seeing their family. And even though major chocolate producers claim
otherwise, investigative journalism proves these corporations
continue to rely on dangerous and exploitative child
labor.
As Halloween approaches,
it is more important than ever that we demand these highly
profitable companies stop relying on child slavery to make
their chocolate. These corporations are about to make
millions of dollars in seasonal candy sales. In 2020 alone,
Hershey's made 3.7 billion dollars in profit. How much of that
money was made off of the backs of children? It is up to us to
put pressure on these companies and tell them: we will not buy
chocolate made from child slaves! Sign the petition to demand that Hersey's,
Nestlé, and Mars finally and truly end the inhumane use of
child labor now!
Thank you for all that you do,

P.S. Illegal
child labor is rampant on West African farms where chocolate
companies like Hershey's and Nestlé source their cocoa, but
they're not doing much to stop it. Sign the petition! |
