Getting clicks,
likes, and views is the new way to make money fast, and people
will do almost anything to generate that kind of Internet
attention. The newest way to do that is with "fake animal
rescue" videos. In these viral clips, a person pits a
high-powered predator, such as a snake, crocodile, or even
eagle, against pet dogs and cats, ducks, lizards or primates.
Then the person presses "record" on their phone.
And waits for one creature to nearly crush or maim the other
to death.
Then, just at the last second,
the human filming swoops in and pretends to "save" the
underdog creature, convincing audiences that their heroism is
real. Even though they're faked, the filming process
puts real pets and wildlife in grave danger — sometimes
leading to injuries, trauma, shock, and even genuine
death. These recordings are largely posted on
YouTube. While the corporation said in March 2021 that it
would start banning such content, hundreds of videos remain up
on the platform. Every video that stays online means animals
continue to be exploited and harmed, and also encourages
wannabes to create their own "copycat" videos. YouTube must prevent animal cruelty. Tell the
corporation to get serious about cracking down on horrifying
"fake animal rescue" videos now!
Thank you,

P.S. "Fake
animal rescue" videos paint certain wildlife species as
uncontrollable predators, while subjecting underdog animals to
immeasurable suffering. YouTube must put an end to this now.
