We Need to Stop Poisoning Bald Eagles With Lead Ammunition

Recently, America's national bird — the powerful, soaring symbol of freedom — died trembling on the ground from bullet fragments left behind in the wild. A bald eagle in Pennsylvania was found unable to stand or fly. Tests confirmed it had ingested lead from ammunition fragments in carrion. Within hours of being admitted for care, the eagle began seizing. Despite emergency treatment, it died overnight. There is a tragic irony in this: the very country that chose the bald eagle as its emblem is allowing it to be slowly poisoned by its own bullets.

Sign now to urge the Pennsylvania Game Commission to require and promote lead-free ammunition to protect wildlife.

Nearly half of studied Bald and Golden Eagle populations show evidence of lead exposure. When traditional lead bullets strike an animal, they shatter into tiny fragments that remain in carcasses and gut piles. Scavengers like eagles consume those fragments and suffer devastating neurological damage, paralysis, and starvation. Sign the petition to demand stronger action from the Pennsylvania Game Commission to transition fully to lead-free ammunition and protect America's national bird.
