Scientists
and wildlife advocates have long speculated that
human-induced noise pollution in oceans massively
impacts marine life. A new study confirms these
fears.
Offshore drilling is
likely a huge contributor to this. But so far,
there's been limited research into the impacts of these
industrial processes on beloved wildlife.
Loud, industrial noises in ocean
waters could also impact feeding, mating, and even
migration patterns for already threatened marine
mammals like dolphins.
The U.S. National
Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) is legally
bound to protect dolphins and whales under the Marine
Mammals Protection Act.
