Members of the United Nations
Security Council will meet today in a
closed-door meeting to discuss the escalating
crisis in Myanmar, where over 500 civilians have
been killed since the military seized power on
Feb. 1. UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres
has called for a strong message to Myanmar's
junta from the council, while Dr. Sasa, the
country's envoy to the UN, says targeted
economic and diplomatic sanctions are needed to

world in calling for a committed, cooperative

rolled back progress toward gender parity in
both the workplace and domestic life, moving the
estimated timeline for closing the gender gap
from last year's estimate of 99.5 years to 135.6
years, a World Economic Forum report says. "It

The destruction of the world's
forests sped up in 2020 as 4.2 million hectares
of untouched forests were destroyed, a 19%
increase from 2019, a report from the World
Resources Institute says. The loss of trees in
forests, which can capture and store large
amounts of carbon, will significantly affect
biodiversity and hasten climate change, WRI
