Wow, we did it! The European Citizens’ Initiative (ECI)
“Save Bees and Farmers!” ended at midnight last Thursday
with well over a MILLION votes -- and that's not even
counting signatures still to be collated from paper signup
sheets.
Bayer/Monsanto and their pack of pesticide-making buddies won't
be happy with this result, but this email isn’t about them. It’s
about remembering our power.
You see, most ECI petitions fail to hit the 1-million signatures
minimum required by the EU. And frankly, only a few months
ago I thought this one was a lost cause, too. I’m so glad
you proved me wrong!
We had a massive surge in signatures right at the end, thanks to
you. Many people only found the ECI webpage thanks to the online ads
that SumOfUs members like you funded. Because of strict privacy
rules we can't tell if you signed, but either way, you helped the
coalition get to a whopping 1,161,256 signatures by midnight last
Thursday. So THANKS A MILLION!
Once the ECI is validated by the European Commission, both the
Commission and the European Parliament will have to respond -- but
that won’t be for months. In the meantime, there’s still
plenty we can do against the pesticide lobby, but only if
we hold together.
