I wanted to make sure you saw the message below. Since then, over 200 people from the WeMove Europe community have decided they want to help supercharge our campaigning next year.

They know that 2021 will not be a walk in the park. And that at WeMove Europe, our income is not made up of checks cut by big business. It is made up of every one of us. Thousands of WeMove Europe members, donating what they can, on a monthly basis.

But it’s still not enough to keep our campaigning running at the scale we need it to next year. So I wanted to ask if you would invest in us doing more together in 2021 – with a small regular donation?

If 200 more of us donate €5 each month, pooled together, it could be the extra push we need to be able to create change on some of the most important issues of our time.

No thanks, but I'll make a one-time donation

There’s a lot of darkness in the world right now, probably more than many of us can bear. So instead of focusing on that, I want to focus on what gives me hope.

And what gives me hope is you and this brilliant community. We’ve achieved a lot in 2020, with only a little.

In a year where “normal” was turned upside down, we held strong. We spoke up for a Europe that heals and rebuilds together from the crisis. A rebuilding with people and planet at its heart. And we demanded an emergency basic income for all.

But we need to do more in 2021 on some of the most important issues of our time. And although it’s not expensive to run WeMove Europe, it’s not free. While almost a million of us sign petitions and email our leaders, less than 1% of us donate to keep it all going. >From printing banners and posters, to having top notch digital systems that maintain our privacy, to translations in 7 languages -- all of these things cost money. And all are vital to winning campaigns.

In January we sit down with the budget to see what we can afford. Sadly, without more recurring monthly donations we might have to scale back what we do, not turbo-charge it.

It’s a difficult time to ask for money, but if you can donate a few euros each month, please do consider it, Vladimir. Our bills don’t get paid by governments or big corporations. We rely on small monthly donations from people like you.

We have big plans for 2021. Here’s a sneak peak of what your donation could pay for:

Action against Coal

No new money for coal, gas and oil. All EU countries are making plans on how to spend the money they get from the European recovery fund. In April they have to present these plans. We will campaign for that money to be invested in renewable energy; to go to nurses and doctors; and not towards lining the pockets of fossil fuel industries. Start a small monthly donation now to make this happen.

People seeking safety

Protect those who need it. We know it’s wrong when men in uniform on a border patrol vessel drag a rubber dinghy carrying women, children and men away from safety. The EU not only allows this but helps pursue it. We will continue to fight for the rights and the dignity of all people seeking safety. Start a small monthly donation now to make this happen.

Solidarity

Redistribute to the 99%. The pandemic is making the super-rich 1% even richer and the lot of poor people even poorer. The Universal Basic Income we demand is built for these situations -- where everybody hit by the pandemic (or simply tough times) would have a safety net. We call for a European pilot program to start unconditional financial support for all. Start a small monthly donation now to make this happen.

Burning forests is not renewable energy

Protect our Forests. Forests are sanctuaries for plants and animals. They provide us with fresh air and clean water. Yet EU policy defines the mass burning of forests as renewable energy and funds it with billions of our public money. In 2021 we can change all that as the EU will be reviewing the policy that makes it all possible. We will call for the EU to stop encouraging the burning of our Forests. Start a small monthly donation now to make this happen.

#WithdrawthisCAP

#WithdrawthisCAP. The EU pays for bad farming which harms the climate, our health, and biodiversity. Farmers get the biggest chunk of EU money simply because of the size of the land they farm on. But this money should be linked to what it does for our health, climate, and nature. We will call on Ursula von der Leyen, president of the EU Commission to #withdrawthisCAP, the Common Agriculture Policy and replace it with a version for people and planet. Start a small monthly donation now to make this happen.

We’re people from all walks of life, who call Europe our home, no matter where we were born, where we live or who we love. We unite and take actions, we sign petitions, send letters and protest on the streets to make our voices heard. You’re vital to our success. Please help to make us strong for the challenges ahead of us.
