Dear colleagues at CAN nodes,The BIG SHIFT campaign introduction call was organised on July 6th for organisations who expressed interest to learn more about it. The call notes responding to some queries from 37 participants on the call would be relevant for the network to read as well. Please view the next steps including campaign planning meeting and sign-up to join the Campaign Task Force.
The Big Shift is intended to be a global, multi-stakeholder, and public-facing campaign co-led with interested strategic partners across constituencies to get the World Bank and other regional MDBs to stop funding fossil fuels and support clean, sustainable energy solutions in line with CAN's position. The proposed aim for this year’s Big Shift campaign is that the World Bank at its Autumn meetings defines a process that will enable them to completely phase out funding for fossil fuels by 2020 and re-direct their finance to renewable energy only. As laid out in Paris Agreement and SDG 7, financial flows need to be aligned with 1.5C goal, and public finance plays a key role in starting to make that happen generating a momentum as seen in the past.
Campaign materials: Please take a look at the campaign concept, outline and strategy, the Factsheet and draft World Bank Campaign Letter in English and Spanish. When someone enters their country name, the letter is automatically sent to the Executive Director representing that country and copied to WB President Dr Jim Yong Kim. This webpage is currently hosted on Christian Aid website and we will build an independent website wherein we will invite campaign partners to add their logos.
Keenly awaiting expression of interest from CAN member colleagues!
Regards,

Dear colleagues steering the CAN nodes,Further to CAN's recent position paper on the subject of sustainable applications of public finance aimed at public finance institutions, a public mobilisation campaign called The Big Shift aimed at World Bank is being developed demanding from them to completely shift their finance portfolio to sustainable, renewable energy by or before 2020 as that would mobilise additional finance for technology, policy and financial sector reforms, decentralised and large-scale sustainable energy projects, etc, thus, eventually supporting NDCs implementation and their enhancement by or before 2020 to be on the trajectory to 1.5C in contrast to above 3 degrees Celsius currently. Please see the email below with details of the campaign, the doodle poll to join the campaign inception call and meeting, as well as provisional documents. CAN Secretariat would be glad to receive expression of interest from your node secretariat and node members to participate in the call to understand the approach to operationalise/implement the asks of the position paper through this campaign. The call and the meeting would together elaborate on the strategy from now till end of the year as pilot phase as well as broader plan for next 2 years including scaling up to other regional development banks.Regards,

I am sending revised Doodle links for the introductory call and strategy meeting – please let us know soon if you are in a position to participate! You will be warmly welcome.
Dear Fossil-Free Public Finance Friends!
We are delighted to invite you to join CAN and Christian Aid to co-create a global, multi-stakeholder, and public-facing campaign called The Big Shift co-owned with interested strategic partners across constituencies to get the World Bank and other regional MDBs to stop funding fossil fuels. The proposed aim for this year’s Big Shift campaign is that the World Bank at its Autumn meetings defines a process that will enable them to completely phase out funding for fossil fuels by 2020.
We would like to invite you to be part of the Campaign Task Force to co-own and steer the campaign from July to November 2017. We are conscious that the campaign delivery time in 2017 is short, so we aim to make this agile, and consider it to be a pilot phase that we hope to extend to the other MDBs in 2018.
The campaign introduction call is proposed to be held in the week beginning 3rd July followed by a full-day campaign inception & strategy meeting in the week beginning 17th July with two hubs (one in London and possibly one in Washington, and you can also join remotely) to discuss the campaign concept, outline and strategy.
Please sign up to the Doodle here for the campaign introduction call: http://doodle.com/poll/kg8azzs43w9hz8rn
Please sign the Doodle to join the 1.5 day campaign inception & strategy meeting: http://doodle.com/poll/5g9urff7kwc9gdns
Campaign materials: Please take a look at the Factsheet and you can review the draft World Bank Campaign Letter in English and Spanish. When someone enters their country name, the letter is automatically sent to the Executive Director representing that country and copied to WB President Dr Jim Yong Kim. This webpage is currently hosted on Christian Aid website and we will build an independent website wherein we will invite campaign partners to add their logos.
If you are interested to understand what commitment the campaign is asking from you and what role you could play, please see the Taskforce TOR here.
Keenly awaiting your expression of interest!
