| Help us stop the
harassment and abuse of the Dongria Kondh.

The
Dongria Kondh are victims of violent and systematic
attacks by state police
Bari
Padikaka, a leader of the Dongria Kondh tribe in India's
Odisha state, died in police custody at the end of June.
His death is the culmination of a campaign of harassment
and abuse against the Dongria by police and security
forces.
The tribe have been subjected to
intimidation, abduction, wrongful arrest,
beatings and torture to stop them campaigning
for their rights.
They believe the police are
"furthering the interests" of Vedanta Resources – the
British company that tried and failed to mine for
bauxite in their sacred Niyamgiri Hills in
2013.
Please urge the Indian Home Affairs
minister to stop the harassment of the Dongria
Kondh. | |

(optional, but useful for our

of Dongria Kondh community members and
leaders
Dear
Minister,
I am gravely concerned about the
harassment and intimidation of the Dongria Kondh
tribe, who have suffered abduction, wrongful
arrest, beatings and torture by the military
and police. I was also alarmed to hear of the
recent death of a Dongria leader while in police
custody. The Dongria believe that the police are
acting to “further the interests” of Vedanta
Resources.
The Dongria unanimously rejected
Vedanta's plan to mine on their land. Please
respect that and stop the harassment of the
community and its leaders.
Yours
sincerely, | | |

word If you haven't already, please watch and share our "Uncontacted
Tribes" campaign film, featuring Survival

Anderson.
Uncontacted tribes are
the most vulnerable peoples on the planet, but
together we can give them the chance to survive
and thrive. We must let them
live.

Gillian
Anderson's impassioned plea In a new
article published online,
Survival ambassador Gillian
Anderson calls for greater efforts
by everyone to safeguard the rights of uncontacted
peoples to their lands and to
self-determination.
She encourages anyone
who cares about the fate of humankind's diversity
– and the environment – to join the global
movement for tribal peoples'
rights.
