My name is Madison Forker, and I’m the associate communications manager at the International Women’s Media Foundation. We have launched applications for the 2022 Courage in Journalism Awards, and I am inviting you to nominate a woman or non-binary journalist who has set themselves apart by exhibiting extraordinary bravery, persistence and resilience.
The awards program honors brave journalists – including photojournalists – working in any country across the world. These women report on taboo topics, immerse themselves in hostile environments and share difficult truths. In addition, the honorees demonstrate a commitment to press freedom and often overcome unjust conditions online and offline to become leaders in their industry.
Our 2021 winners were Katsiaryna Andreyeva and Darya Chultsova (Belarus), Vanessa Charlot (United States), the Khabar Lahariya Newsroom (India), and Paola Ugaz (Peru).
Candidates for the Courage in Journalism Awards must be full-time staff or freelance women or non-binary reporters, writers, editors, photographers or producers working in any country and of any nationality. Applications are available in English, Spanish, and French, and due by March 18, 2022. We do not accept self-nominations.
Please let us know if you have someone in mind for this award. If you could share this opportunity with your network, we would appreciate it. Below, I have included a sample tweet you can use to promote the award.
