For decades, Americans have unknowingly been
ingesting food and water contaminated with toxic
chemicals found in everyday goods like nonstick pans,
household cleaners, and even dental floss.
These chemicals, often known as “forever
chemicals” -- called perfluoroalkyl and polyfluoroalkyl
substances (PFAS) -- can lead to several dire health
problems including liver damage, certain types of
cancer, and thyroid disease.
Communities across the country -- including those on
military bases -- continue to be deeply impacted by this
growing public health crisis, but companies like 3M and
DuPont are spending billions of dollars to lobby against
any regulations of their dangerous chemicals.
Our health and wellbeing are not something to be
brushed under the rug in favor of corporate money -- we
must refuse to jeopardize ourselves for the sake of
their bottom line.
This is a major national health issue
that requires federal protection. Demand Congress
regulate PFAS and hold polluting companies responsible
now.
PFAS have contaminated the drinking water of millions
of people across America and unsurprisingly the
companies that produce household items with these toxic
chemicals have known about the health risks for decades.
Yet, similar to tobacco companies and Big Oil, they
have also knowingly suppressed information that would
inform the public about the harm that their products
cause.
We cannot sit by and watch these corporations
actively contribute to this public health crisis to
boost their profit margins. It’s time for them to stop
playing politics with the lives of every American.
We must speak out now to hold
the chemical industry accountable for knowingly
poisoning people and covering it up. Sign the petition:
Congress must regulate PFAS and hold polluting companies
responsible.
Thank you for taking action. Together, we will
finally hold the chemical industry accountable.
