Where should
#WildForLife go next?
Dear
wildlife champion,
The momentum to stop the
illegal trade in wildlife has never been
stronger. The #WildForLife campaign has seen
tens of millions of citizens from across the
world pledge to help the UN fight wildlife
crime, and more governments have made public
commitments to protect species than ever before.
To keep our momentum going,
the #WildForLife campaign is continuing to raise
awareness toward the plight of 16 endangered
species including sea turtles,
jaguars, rhinos, pangolins and
rosewood.
We need your help to decide
where the campaign will go next and what species
to add!
In
our last survey you said you wanted to see how
your involvement could have an impact on the
ground. This led us to create the Big Cat Team
Challenge for World Wildlife Day
2018.
So thanks to you, the Wild for Life
community!
Since the last time we sent
you an update,
·
We added three big cat species and three
more celebrity ambassadors to the campaign:
Ellie Goulding for lions, Aidan Gallagher for
jaguars and Dia Mirza for snow
leopards.
·
For World Wildlife Day, the Big Cats Team
Challenge made donations to four field projects:
in Kenya for lions, in India for tigers, in
Bolivia for jaguars and in the Kyrgyz Republic
for snow leopards.
·
The Big Cats Team Challenge winner, Snow
Leopard Trust, used the prize money to install
trapping cameras that gather information about
the snow leopard’s behavior to help stop
poaching.
·
This
Snow Leopard Day, the Mongolian Government
announced
that all previously issued mining licenses in
the newly created Nature Reserve of Tost
Tosonbumba were revoked to protect this big
cat.
·
Global airports exhibitions have run in
Prague, Beijing, and London Heathrow to prevent
and reduce the demand for wildlife products with
over 2.9 million pledges in China
alone.
·
Global bans to protect wildlife have been
upgraded and better enforced, the latest being
in the UK.
So we’ve made progress, but
we must continue to bring this issue to light
and encourage others to use their sphere of
influence to combat wildlife crime in whatever
way they can, particularly as threats like
marine litter, pollution, climate change and
habitat conversion for farming continue to
build.
Will you take a few minutes
to share your thoughts in the survey
below?
Thank you for taking action
to keep up the momentum and for being
#WildForLife. We can’t wait to hear from
you!
