This is why we show up for freedom.

We wanted to be sure you saw this important action from our partners at Amnesty International in Canada. Every donation made before December 24th will be matched dollar-for-dollar -- up to $50,000. Can you donate?

This holiday season, courageous human rights defenders around the world urgently need your support.

  • In Guatemala, Indigenous Maya Q'eqchi' leader Bernardo Caal Xol was thrown into prison and convicted without evidence on false charges for opposing an illegal dam project that threatened his people's sacred river. Bernardo broke no law when he organized his people to defend their rights and precious water. Yet he was imprisoned, while the dams proceeded and the river dried up.

  • Last year, Wendy Galarza nearly lost her life for speaking out against an alarming increase in gender-based violence in Mexico. Wendy was shot when police opened fire on women demonstrating against government inaction in the face of yet another murder. Now Wendy is seeking justice for the wrongful attack on her and the other women protestors. It is a dangerous quest against those who have always been above the law.

When you make a donation to Amnesty International, you help us bring light to the stories of those who have been overlooked — with rigorous, ground-breaking,  independent research that exposes human rights abuses.

Vladimir, we use every resource available to support courageous human rights defenders like Wendy and Bernardo resist blatant injustice. We need donors like you to increase those resources. Will you answer our call so we can strengthen our efforts – and our impact?

With gratitude and hope,

The Team at Amnesty International Canada
