It also put 20 Japanese companies on a watchlist, bringing the number of entities under Chinese constraint to 40. The current row began in November, when Japanese Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi said her country might get involved it China attacked the island nation of Taiwan, which China regards as its territory. Since those comments, Chinese visitors to Japan dropped 61% year-over-year and the two countries are openly hostile to one another.
