Hi everyone – CSU Bakersfield is currently recruiting for their Edible Garden Coordinator position, which is part of the CSU STEM VISTA program. Details are below. Please forward to any graduating students or alumni you think may be interested. Thanks!

Dear Colleagues,

The CSU STEM VISTA program, a national service program supported by the CSU Center for Community Engagement, places VISTA (Volunteers in Service to America) members at a CSU campus who will serve full-time for one year focused on STEM student success projects.

One project we are currently recruiting for is the  Edible Garden Coordinator position at CSU Bakersfield. This is a unique opportunity for graduating seniors and alumni interested sustainable food initiatives.  In this position the VISTA member will connect CSUB students, K-14 students, and community members with local, healthy, fresh produce they can grow, research, harvest, cook, and eat in the garden. The VISTA will support the sustainability of the garden, and facilitate it as a living lab for faculty to develop co-curricular learning. Finally, the VISTA will coordinate cooking workshops offered by professional and student chefs to teach students and community members how to prepare produce grown in the garden.

We are hoping you can help get the word out to any outstanding graduating seniors or alumni who have an interest in STEM education, food security and working in K-12 or higher education, or are looking for a gap year program before applying to graduate school. Applicants are required to have a bachelor’s degree (STEM degree not required).

Please share this announcement widely! You can visit the CSU STEM VISTA website to learn more about the application process, available positions, or more about the day-to-day activities of CSU STEM VISTA members.

If you have any questions about the program, please contact Kristina Barger.

Thank you!

Judy
