Melanie D.G. Kaplan discussses her book, "Lab Dog: A Beagle and His Human Investigate the Surprising World of Animal Research"

We’re excited to invite you to join CALS for a webinar with acclaimed journalist Melanie D.G. Kaplan. Melanie will join us on April 7 at 12:10pm PT to discuss her book, Lab Dog: A Beagle and His Human Investigate the Surprising World of Animal Research.

Part investigative journalism and part memoir, Lab Dog follows Melanie and her rescued beagle, Hammy, as they uncover the realities of the biomedical research industry. From Hammy’s own four-year history in a lab to the broader ethical questions surrounding the millions of animals used in experiments annually, Kaplan offers a nuanced look at our complex relationship with the species we both cherish and exploit.

This online event is free, open to the public, and there will be time for Q & A. We’re delighted to feature William C. Borst Anti-Vivisection Scholarship Recipients, Jennifer Steen (formerly Draiss) and Denise Cartolano, as moderators for this talk. To register, click here.

CALS has since developed into a world-renowned animal law epicenter, and our Alumni-in-Action are advancing legal protections and making a difference for animals around the world. CALS is a self-funded center within Lewis & Clark Law School operating under the Lewis & Clark College 501(c)(3) tax exemption, and is able to provide these educational opportunities through donations and grants.
