All,
As the community has grown in size substantially, I would like to start making better use of the email lists for async communication.
It's very difficult to keep track of what is going on in Gitter as the amount of communication has grown. In the next 1-2 months we are going to switch to Slack which will allow us to have multiple rooms, but the problem remains that async requests are better served over email than chat.
We have the following three email lists:
- envoy-announce: Everyone should join this. We will use it only for release notifications, security issues, etc. I promise that we will be better about actually mailing this list about important things.
- envoy-users: Everyone that is a user of envoy who wants to participate in usage discussions should join this. People are encouraged to email this list for issues that do not require the immediacy of chat. All developers working on envoy should absolutely join this list.
- envoy-dev: Anyone that is actively contributing code to envoy should join this list. We will discuss development issues that come up.
In looking through the membership of the three lists, it's clear that it's somewhat haphazard. Please forward this email within your org where appropriate to make sure people get on the lists.
Thanks,
Matt
