After more than year of research and community consultation, Kentville’s Integrated Community Sustainability Plan (ICSP) is all but done.
Public comment on the vision and planning document ends March 19 and town council will consider the final version March 29 at 7 p.m.
The document’s aim is to “provide a practical and strategic action plan for the community to move towards the realization of its vision as a ‘healthy, vibrant, integrated and complete community
where citizens can live, work and play in an environment that supports a high quality of life.’”
“Envision Kentville” will help shape the town’s strategic planning and development priorities for the next 10 years. A draft version was approved at the March 8 council advisory committee meeting,
where Councillor Eric Bolland commented, “it’s an important document and it’s important the town embraces it and follows its findings and doesn’t put it on the shelf.”
All municipalities must complete an ICSP before March 31, according to an agreement on federal gas tax transfers signed by the provincial and federal governments in 2005.
Kentville began its ICSP in earnest last January, under the leadership of sustainability coordinator Brennan Vogel.
