Greetings to you on the occasion of Ganesh Chathurti.

It is with great pleasure that we invite you with family for the Ganesh Chathurti [Ganpati] celebrations in our house.

We celebrate Ganpati for 5 days. 

However, due to unforeseen circumstances, this year we will be celebrating the function in house from 7.9.16 to 15.9.16.

The idea of 10 days celebration was brought in and established by Lokamanya Tilak, [more than 100 years ago] with the idea of bringing people of all communities together and was used as a forum to inculcate the idea of patriotism and the need to fight for the freedom of India.

In the present-day context, protecting the environment is of prime importance and concern.

Following the practice of some eco-friendly devotees, we keep metal Ganpati for the Pooja, we bid him farewell, (Visarjan) by immersing Him in a bucket of water, wiping Him and use the next year. To that extent, the pollution in water bodies is less by one person/family, per year.

 

Every year i do some decorations to bring awareness about Environment, its conservation and protection and the need for reuse and recycle. Towards this end, we make use of used or discarded materials to make the decoration.

This is to motivate the visitors not to throw away things as waste but put
them to some purposeful use or activity.

This year [2016], the main Mandap has been made from one-side papers.

There are 3 other Mandaps to keep our collection of Ganpati idols.

These are made from the old wall calendars,the cardboards used for binding of books.

Colourful picture of Ganpati has been used for external decoration It is Logo of Mangalore Ganesh Beedi and was taken from the paper that wraps the Beedi bundles (i got them from local newspaper vendor in Tiruchirappalli).The shopkeepers generally throw away these wrappers as "waste".

We talk about not wasting materials, saving the environment and what we can do, to all those who visit our Ganpati celebration.
