I am like a lot of folks that is a little hesistant to jump on the
bandwagon and get all excited about this XMRV virus and its
association to chronic fatigue syndrome. I even saw on TV where a
doctor noted this was "really big" news. However, the question is are
the results reproducable and how long is it going to take to reproduce
them. It does however, put a bug into "the powers that be" that should
make more funding available for research on chronic fatigue syndrome.

Unfortunately, it may open another can of worms we all may not
expect....

In watching the HHS Advisory Committee today -- a few things came up
that are interesting. The first is there is already tests out there
that test for XMRV but doctors that are experts on XMRV noted that it
was not advisable to take those tests....and said that it would be 6
months before a reputable test was available. Although he was hesitant
to put a timeline on it...

So no, I am not gonna worry about a test until someone with reputable
qualifications out there says that their is valuable science to back
up the quality of the test.

I should have made myself more clear -- it was a researcher on
retroviruses that spoke for quite alone time -- that said he noted
that tests were available and he suggested that what he saw on the
Internet was a "very bad idea"!
