Invasive Species, Implement Quarantine Resolution passed by the Oahu County Convention, April 2011
Mandate DOA include all species that may have adverse impact on citizens, agriculture and forests and native ecosystems on their list of quarantined organisms. Fund the Quarantine Branch and the Invasive Species Committees of each county adequately to do their job. Build Quarantine inspection facilities at each port of entry to contain any insects release during inspection.
The State needs to take steps to eradicate the wild parrots, coqui frogs, bee mites and coffee bean borer from the Big Island. The state has failed to keep these pests out. Specifically, the State was in collusion with Lion Coffee to allow them to import non fumigated green coffee beans from areas of known coffee bean borer infestation. This is unconscionable and reprehensible that the State DOA would show favor to a large importer to the detriment of hundreds of small farmers on the Big Island.
