We have three ways to communicate with our members. One is our official e-mail list hosted by MailChimp. The other is the environmental Caucus blog and the third is this discussion group.
1. The official mailing list is used only for correspondence that has been approved by the steering committee. Members who want to receive official correspondence must click "join us" on our blog and enter their name and email address to be added to the mailing list. They will then receive an email asking if they really want to be on the list. Join the list by confirming that you really did ask to be on our mailing list. This is called a double option in mailing list. It protects you from spammers and it protects us from accusations that we have spammed someone. This mailing list conforms to all Federal regulations and provides a convenient way to unsubscribe should you want to leave us.
2. Our blog, environmentalcaucusofthedemocraticpartyofhawaii, should be used to stimulate discussions and and keep members informed of the activities of the caucus and of its subcommittees. Members of the steering committee and subcommittee chairs are able to post to the blog and everyone can comment on those posts. Bottom line, respectful discussion is encouraged. Personal attacks will get you banned.
The ultimate purpose of our blog is to inform members concerning issues and to get their their active involvement in the caucus. All points of view are welcome. You do not have to be a Democrat to participate in this discussion. You must be a Democrat to be able to vote on issues.
However, it is important that readers understand what is news, what is caucus positions and what is opinions. Opinion based on fact are particularly powerful, so to the extent possible reference your sources.
All posts must start with a tag line: News-, Caucus Position-, Personal Opinion-, Committee Chair Opinion-, Committee Member Opinion-
Those people with authority to make original posts are the committee chairs, the Caucus Chair and Vice Chair. Any steering committee member who wants to be able to post needs to be briefed on the posting procedures for wordpress before receiving authorizations.
3. The Google Discussion Group: This discussion group overcomes the problem of Discussions scrolling down and getting lost in the blog window. For each issue we you want to discuss there is a note introducing the subject. Click on the note and you can post a comment and see all comments that have been made on this subject. If we have set this up correctly this discussion group is open to anyone who wants to comment. It is the subcommittee chair's responsibility to make sure all appropriate subjects are represented in this discussion.
