I just purchased a cisco catalyst 2960 switch. It is a refurb unit. When I attempt to enter the express setup routine on it I get a password challenge where I should not and when I respond with cisco as the password, I get a page that has 7 items to choose between, mostly trouble shooting stuff. The last item on the list is a web console. Which looks promising for setting up the switch. However, when I click on the web console link I get a 404 error. I have been able to telnet into the unit with putty, but configuring the switch at a cli is beyond me at this point. Does this thing have a nice web based configuration that I am used to with other brands? (this is my first piece of cisco equipment) And if it exists, how do I access said web based configuration page?

I have a loaned Cisco 2960 48P stacked that I am suppose to swap out with 2x 24port Meraki MS225 and 1x 48port Meraki MS225 switch. This is the first time I am handling this in my new environment but I am guessing this is what i should be doing? Appreciate if the more experienced network expert could point me along the way

I have copied out the config from the Cisco 2960 and I am assuming i need to stack all the 3 MS225 switches so they act as 1 single switch? does it matter which switch should I paste the configure into?

Hello
As far as I am aware (unless it has changed) you will need to manually create the configuration you will not be able to copy & paste from the 2960 to the MS switches.

Meraki devices are configured via a centrally managed internet GUI based dashboard , which you connect to and create your own organisation & networks, This can even been done prior to even receiving any physical hardware through registration of your procurement. here

You can stack all MEraki 225 switches, but you have to provision manually all configurations on the Meraki Dashboard. Now to make your job less painful, you can do it all almost via API using the Meraki repo

I have already registered the Meraki switch and it is appearing on my Meraki dashboard, I have not setup the stacking yet. Am i right to say there isn't much choice in exporting or moving the existing configuration over (unless via API and I have to do this manually through the Meraki GUI) I have 1 more question. The current Cisco 2960 48x2 are stacked together. I have been given 2 x MS225 24 port and 1x MS225 48 port by my boss. (could have make my life better by just giving me 2x MS225 48port) I can only stack the 24 port together and leave the 48 port standalone, So I guess I have plan out the interface GE port configuration correctly given the config i export from the Cisco 2960 is based on a 48port stacked.

first up I'm a beginner with cisco devices! We recieved out 1st Cisco 2960's today and began to setup the device using the express setup. Input all correct IP/Subnet/Gateway/pwd etc and all went ok. We then connected two 2960's via OM3 and the SFP's that were ordered with the units. Connected them up and I have connectivity between the two through the SFP (green lights on both ends). One of the switches has an uplink from a 3com 4200G via cat5, we tested the connectivity to the network on this switch and it is doing its job. However, the switch which is connected solely via the SFP is not communicating. On the 3Coms the SFP port is shutdown by default and it needs to be enabled. Is there a similar problem occuring here? What are the commands for correctly configuring the SFP ports on both switches, bearing in mind they are on the same vlan 1 (default).

Good pic. Cheers. The problem is most likely the link between the two switches. By default, they should have formed a trunk link and from the output of the show ip interface brief command, you can see that both interfaces are up.

Hi Conor, Turns out i misinformed you re building 1 switch. It is NOT aquiring ip addressing from the 3com at all. Turns out 10 of the workstations i was basing my assumption on were connected to the cisco and the others were on another 3com! And of course i only saw the stations connected to the 3com and assumed it was connected to the cisco :/ I troubleshooted the 3com and cisco switch.... I have green lights on both....the uplink port is a trunk port on both....everything SHOULD be A OK.... But its not.....no go.... Seems our network has more serious issues with our 3com core vlan switch. From an engineer i was talking to today said our core VLAN switch is having tree-spanning issues. All the subsequent switches added to the network are not pointing to the VLAN switch causing us headaches. So thats it in a nutshell...its been a long day and 3hours on my iphone!! So seeing this is a cisco forum... I think the support will stop here! I will have to rectify the 3com issues. I really appreciate your help conor and youve taught me some valuable information! So thats something! Thanks again! Matt

I am trying to configure a Cisco Catalyst 2960L-SM, this kind of switch cannot be configured through CLI and has to be done through web interface using 192.168.1.1, however default password for this switch (smartm / c2960lsm) was not working as well as cisco / cisco...

As a result I have tried the password recovery procedure but it seems it is only working with the LL models as I haven't been able to finish it, getting stuck at the step where I was supposed to get a prompt after the booting sequence.

It seems the problem was not coming from wrong username or password or anything broken from the os but from the user not having enough privilege. One of the challenge was to be able to modify the default user / create a new user without being able to access the configuration mode and with the setup command not working on enable mode.

I would like to synchronize a Cisco Catalyst 2960 series switch with a publicly available NTP server such as time.apple.com. I have reviewed the knowledge base article here: Catalyst 2960 Configuration Guide but am not entirely sure which parts of the "Configuring NTP" subsection are relevant to my configuration.
