Hi all, I was just thinking about entombed and how it’s a great game for the blind and vision impaired, and I remembered a video game I played once at a friends house years ago, in the mid 1980’s.

It was sort of like a space invaders sort of game where your character had to move down a long hallway type thing in a space age place and time, shooting things that came at him before they hit him and damaged his health or something. And my friends who the game belonged too, once said this is a game where the player controlled character is blind.

That comment has always stuck in my mind, even though I can’t remember the name of the game or even what kind of computer we played it on.

If somebody has any idea about what the game was or what computer it was on or anything else, could you please tell me,. Cause I’m most interested to see if I can find it and purchase it so I can play it once more.

Hi,

I played a lot of games back in the 80s, but I don’t remember any with a blind person as the main character.  Although even if there was,  I’m not sure how playable a game like that would be from back in the 80s though, since accessibility in games was pretty much non-existent  and most games sounds weren’t directional, which would make navigation difficult. if you’re looking for   other games like entombed to play with turn based combat, although they are not exactly the same there are games such as manamon or ‘A heroes call’ (which is now free to play, both have turn based combat systems similar to entombed. or if you wanted to create your own game , although it’s now discontinued you could download Sable from ebonskystudios.com website, which lets you create your own game with turn based combat, and doesn’t require any coding, so you can just  install it and  be creating worlds within minutes. Again its been discontinued so is no longer supported, but if you’re just wanting to make something fun to play for yourself , you might have some fun with that.

Anyway hope the above helps

Paul

Thanks for that Paul, I have been thinking of making my own rpg game and maybe floating it on some website for the blind, now that I know about that website, I might be able to start working on it.

Hi again Paul, maybe my friend was just making fun of me that time, since I was about 5 years old and he was about 18 years old, and I was crazy for playing video games back when I was little.  So maybe it had nothing to do with a blind person.

Besides, you’re right when you say video games back in the 80’s had nothing to do with today’s games for the blind, and programmers probably wouldn’t have had a clue how to make a video game or a RPG game back in the 1980’s.

Hi,

Sadly since the tool made by Ebon sky studios  is no longer supported and no longer in development, any   games created using their tools are for private use only and can’t be shared. So if you did create something with it , it would be for your own personal use only unfortunately.   There are a bunch of YouTube videos on their webpage talking more about it and showing how to use it, but Since this is hugely off topic and I don’t want to stray too far from conversations about entombed, I’ll just  say if you want to contact me further about it, even though the project is no longer supported I still check the emails from ebon sky studios, so you can reach me on the email address on their webpage if you have any other questions.

Happy entombing
