ENQUIRY ABOUT PALADINS

Hi all, just regarding the job of a paladin, why is it when you use smite, it never hit’s the part of the enemy body you aim for? For example, I have a paladin on my team right now, and when I get into a fight with an enemy character, I always press 8 to aim for the enemy head, but the smite always hits the enemy characters leg or foot, doesn’t matter what.
