Hi Rick -
I just finished reading your brief and it was great. I especially
liked the logic on page 50. Finally, when people ask me the
difference between an agent and a manager I can site your
description. I've always felt that a good manager is someone who
could step in and do the jobs of the other members of the team. I
like your description better. Also, you are so right about the
interstate commerce thing. I had a talent agency in Portland, OR for
many years and we negotiated plenty of jobs for our clients in films,
series, commercials, etc., which were produced both in Portland, LA,
Seattle and other cities.
I was also a manager in Portland and never had an attorney or agent
negotiate my clients' deals and no one had any problem dealing with
me. Only in LA is there this problem.
I hope you win your case...right is might and all of that. I know
how difficult it has been to get to this point but you have fought the
good fight and that's all anyone can ask.
Best of luck -
Sam Downey
