dEWDrop does not seem to be mentioned on EWD Community Discussion yet/
still. Thus this Note.

dEWDrop.7z is a wonderful chunk of goodness which is a virtual
machine including-

EWD installed with apache (and m_apache) with /vista/ as the URL
key.
ewdMgr, an EWD app and Utility is ready to run, (compiled etc.)
via http:YourLocalVM-IP/vista/ewdMgr/index.ewd

GTM is of course installed, version 5.4-002B, for EWD and VistA

WorldVistA is installed.

VistaCom which is an impressive (I had no contribution so I can gush)
EWD app
which interfaces WorldVistA to a Browser, iPAD or smartphone (sort
of)
via http:YourLocalVM-IP/vista/VistACom/index.ewd

DownLoad from http://www.fourthwatchsoftware.com/dEWDrop.7z
It is 2.4 Gig, compressed with7zip (which you may need to extract
it)
( I had some difficulty taking ten tries before getting the whole
thing?)
Free VMWare runs it - on/under Ubuntu/Linux or Windoze.
Identify the Local IP address when you start it up in VMWare or
other.

The Linux User is vista with password ewd.
The WorldVistA accesscode is worldvista6
(note error in HardHat announcement, its not worldvista)
and verifycode is $#happy7

My Thanks to all those who contributed to this. I have spent/wasted
much time
messing around with configuration around EWD and GTM- most of it my
own
doings, but frustrating nonetheless.

Here is the link to an announcement Jan 12, 2012 on Hardhats by Rob
Tweed-
http://groups.google.com/group/hardhats/browse_thread/thread/1da86e7419b9ab8d/72c2d536fe7b9617?q=hardhat+ewd+dewdrop#72c2d536fe7b9617

There is a discussion following there.

I thought a search for dEWDrop on Enterprise Web Development Community
should not come up dry.

Thank you Rob Tweed, Dave Wicksell, Larry Landis, George Lilly, Nancy
Anthracite, Dave Whitten and no doubt many others for putting this
together in one chunk that works out of the box.

Thanks for mentioning dEWDrop here, Kirt!

The other thing to note is that the version of WorldVistA is pre-
populated with test patients and associated diagnostic/treatment data,
and is set up with wards and clinics for both inpatients and
outpatients - so effectively a "virtual hospital" that can be used for
VistA app development, learning about VistA, teaching, etc. This
makes it an extremely valuable resource. Having a standardised
platform for VistA app/UI development should help to accelerate things
considerably.

The intention is to continue to enhance and improve the VM. Node.js
and the ewdGateway.js module will be included in the next release
(coming v soon I believe), and there are a few bugs and errors that
will be sorted out in future builds.

Use of EWD with VistA is specifically covered in Lesson 9 of the EWD/
VistA training. You may still subscribe to it - all the lessons are
in Webinar format and have been recorded, and you'll be sent copies
plus the passwords to open them. You can then go through them at your
own pace. Although targeted at VistA developers, the course is
suitable for anyone wanting to learn EWD. To register:

hi Rob,

I tried to download the VM but the file 'dEWDrop.7z' is not available
on portal: http://www.fourthwatchsoftware.com/dEWDrop.7z
I am getting the following error:

404 Error File Not Found
The page you are looking for might have been removed,
had its name changed, or is temporarily unavailable.

Thanks,

Yes I also get that - I've reported it to Larry Landis and David
Wicksell. However due to timezone differences I suspect it will be a
few hours before they will be able to sort it out. I don't know
what's happened - I don't look after dEWDrop: I just assist David and
Larry on EWD-related issues in the VM

Sorry everyone. This was my fault. I was about to push up the newest
version of dEWDrop, complete with all the
goodness Rob described, as well as more he isn't aware of. But I still
have
a few more things to add, and forgot
to move the old version back to a place where it can be picked up by
the
link on my website. It is fixed now. It will
still be the older version of dEWDrop, but the new one should be
released
sometime this week. I will make an
announcement when I push the latest.

dEWDrop is a cooperative effort between WorldVistA, VistA Expertise
Network, M/Gateway, and Fourth Watch Software.
And my website should always have the latest and greatest version of
dEWDrop. If anyone has any issues with it,
or questions about it, feel free to email me. My email address is on
the
website. Thanks everyone, and sorry for the
bit of trouble I caused.

Sorry, forgot to mention the hard work and support of Oroville
Hospital. Without
their efforts, dEWDrop wouldn't exist either. :-)

The download link of dEWDrop at fourthwatchsoftware is still "404"
and unavailable as of Feb 3, 2012.

Any news on update?

Hello everyone,

First off, you are all welcome. I'm happy to be able to help the
community in this way.

I am formally announcing the latest dEWDrop, release 2. As before, it
is available as a 7zip
archive on my company's (Fourth Watch Software) website at:
http://www/fourthwatchsoftware.com

This release has fixed a bug, that was my fault, in VistACom. I have
cleaned up a bit of the
development configuration that Fourth Watch Software supplied. It
includes changes to the selection
of new persons/users supplied by Ignacio Valdes of Astronaut, LLC. It
has Node.js installed and
configured, out of the box to use port 8080. It is not yet configured
to use SSL, but should be for release 3.
Thanks to Rob Tweed of M/Gateway for helping me configure Node.js for
dEWDrop.
In order to use Node.js, you simply:

$ cd www/resources ; node ewd

and point your browser at port 8080. As before, dEWDrop contains the
EWD Manager application that
comes with EWD and the VistACom application that was developed by me,
supported by Oroville
Hospital, and which interfaces to the CCR/CCD package, developed by
George Lilly and packaged for
this version by OHUM. Rob Tweed, Chris Richardson, and Zach Gonzales
also provided some code that
is used by VistACom.

I have also configurd a local firewall, which will force you to use
port 443 to access the EWD applications
using Apache. You should ALWAYS encrypt medical data being accessed by
a web browser. When you log in,
you will see what release you are on, as well as the preconfigured
access/verify codes of a dummy user that
has test mail with CCR and CCD attachments, etc., so you can test
VistACom. Also, when logging in, you will
see your IP address (which can be seen again with the command $
ifconfig) and if you point a webkit based
browser at it, you can run the EWD applications, making sure to
substitute your own IP address.

E.g. https://192.168.1.112/vista/ewdMgr/index.ewd
for the EWD Manager using Apache
E.g. https://192.168.1.112:8080/vista/ewdMgr/index.ewd
for the EWD Manager using Node.js

(Make sure to have Node running already)
E.g. https://192.168.1.112/vista/VistACom/index.ewd
for VistACom using Apache
E.g. https://192.168.1.112:8080/vista/VistACom/index.ewd
for VistACom using Node.js

I have also included my M-tools package of M Developer tools for
users of the vim editor. If you use vi/vim as your
editor of choice, this package may help boost your productivity.

To wrap this up, I have also installed and configured the ExtJS
package of custom tags for use in EWD. I have tested
it and it works great. Also due to be completed for release 3 I will
configure the YUI widget library for use with EWD apps.
There may be more things that I can't remember, but I think this is
most of it.

Special thanks to everyone at WorldVistA who has put in countless
hours of work into the WorldVistA 3-09 release that
dEWDrop contains, especially George Lilly and Nancy Anthracite. Also
thanks to Rick Marshall of the VISTA Expertise
Network and Zach Gonzales of Oroville Hospital for helping configure
parts of the VistA system for dEWDrop. Thanks again
to Rob Tweed for helping me solve some of the thornier problems with
the rendering of XSLT transformed XML in VistACom,
and LD "Gus" Landis for helping me with some of the GT.M configuration
in dEWDrop. So thank you all for your help in
making dEWDrop a resounding success. :-)

One last thing, if anyone would like a dEWDrop image in a different
format, or archived and compressed in a different way,
just let me know

Sorry, you need to use 'www.fourthwatchsoftware.com' for that host, as there is nothing
setup at present (other plans) for the naked 'fourthwatchsoftware.com. The 'www' is
required.

Here's some quick notes I made for myself that may help:

To get into GT.M shell:

mumps -dir

Normally do this from /home/vista

EWD application root directory: /home/vista/www/ewd

Compiled routines are saved to: /home/vista/www/r

%zewd* routines are held inL /opt/lsb-mgateway/ewd/894/routines/

                                 or: /home/vista/lib/ewd/894/routines

/home/vista/lib  = symbolic link to /opt/lsb-mgateway

Pre-page scripts go in /home/vista/p

URLs are of the format:

 192.168.1.123/vista/[appname]/[pagename].ewd

Shutting down: sudo halt

Resetting network: sudo /etc/init.d/networking restart

To identify IP address: you'll be told when you log on using puTTY or SSH, or use:

ifconfig

Hope this helps

Rob

Unfortunately I am a complete linux noob so don't know where to go from there to try and find out why I can't get to the applications. Also can't ftp onto it but that might be because apache does not have this enabled.

Does this system have a graphical environment which might help me get into it a bit more to try and determine what is going wrong? If so how can I start it up from the command line?

If it doesn't then are you able to share any tips on how to start figuring out what is wrong?

From Bhaskar -

/etc/rc.local should have a line before the exit 0 that says:

rm /etc/udev/rules.d/70-persistent-net.rules

Dear Chris,

In addition to Rob's post about URL decoding, etc... The above is also something that
may be needed, especially if you are on a different network.

What happens is once networking has been established by dEWDrop in a particular network
setting, the "rule is cast" and dEWDrop expects that the network won't change.

By adding the above from Bhaskar, you ensure that dEWDrop will go through all the steps
necessary to ensure that the network is discovered on each reboot of dEWDrop.

Thanks for all the replies on this guys.
I deleted the original post once I realised that it was in fact my firewall blocking the return traffic even though it wasn't reporting that it was. Took a long time to find this.
Obviously didn't delete it fast enought though lol.

I have gone through the ewd vistacom demo and it looks good.
Everything works great when running through apache but it seems to hang when going through node when returning non-text results such as the formatted reports.

A real Linux noob question here.
Is there a way within linux/vm player to reduce the disk size of this instance?

The reason for asking is that I am trying to get this instance loaded into an Amazon EC2 micro instance to take advantage of their free one year service and I don't think that a 12gb machine is going to fit in there.

Dear Chris,

There are ways to shrink a VM image, but it is complicated.  You may want
to do some web searches.  Expanding is easy.

Regarding using an image with various hosting services... from what I've heard,
they require you to create images using the tools that they provide. Once you
have created an image with their resources, you are then able to deploy copies
of that image... but they tend not to provide "import" features.  I don't know the
specifics of EC2, but a few years ago, they did not provide import options. That
may have changed.

I would recommend that since you have a working machine (in dEWDrop), you
try to build one from scratch so you know how all the pieces go together.

Dear Geky,

Attached is part of what I had to do to get VISTA up on a Z-Series
running SuSE Linux... Except for using YaST rather than yum/apt-get
it is the same.  I am in the process of writing up things.  Anyway, the
attached should get you to where you have a running instance.

From the dEWDrip machine, create the following exports:
$ cd /opt
$ tar cfz /tmp/lsb-fwslc.tgz lsb-fwslc
$ tar cfz /tmp/lsb-mgateway.tgz lsb-mgateway
$ tar cfz /tmp/lsb-sencha.tgz lsb-sencha
$ tar cfz /tmp/lsb-yahoo.tgz lsb-yahoo

$ cd ~vista
$ tar cfz /tmp/bin.tgz bin
$ tar cfz /tmp/etc.tgz etc
$ tar cfz /tmp/lib.tgz lib
$ tar cfz /tmp/dEWDrop-p+r.tgz p r
$ tar cfz /tmp/dEWDrop-www.tgz www
$ mupip extract -format=zwr -sel=* /tmp/dEWDrop.zwr 2>&1 | tee /tmp/dEWDrop.toc

Then move all of the above to the installation target... and follow the directions in
the attached files.  This should give you a good start.  These directions do not
include setting up Apache, Xinetd (for EWD and CPRS repectively).

Dear Geky,

Yes.. as a user, all of the distros of Linux are "the same" (maybe
slightly different).  Administratively there are variations.  The main
ones are the RedHat family (Fedora, RHEL, CentOS), Debian (Ubuntu,
LinuxMint) and SuSE (no derivatives that I know of... but I haven't
looked). Once things are installed, then you should have not problem.

Mainly (from a noob perspective), the installation repositories are
managed differently and have different (per stream) package names.
- RedHat  yum
- Debian   aptitude/apt-get
- SuSE    YaST

RedHat and SuSE use RPM (RedHat Package Manager) where
Debian uses DEB.  They all have search capability so you can
find the stuff you want even if you don't know the name.

Amazon do have a facility to import vmware machine straight into EC2 however, as I found out after spending a whole day on it, this currently only workd for windows images, not Linux. This is such a shame as being able to take the dewDrop build and add to it would have been exactly what I was looking for.

Unfortunately building a machine from scratch is exactly what I am trying to avoid as I really do not know linux/Unix at all. I read your post below and looked at the instructions and could not make head nor tail of them. I guess they assume a knowledge of Unix if not Linux.

Greetings,

This has not been floated that I've heard... But I would consider setting up
an instance that someone created for a fee.

Cheers,

Apparently there is another way to get a linux vmware machine onto EC2 so I will investigate that for now (when I get a chance). It looks quite tortuous so not sure how far I will get but it would be good to be able to get a set of steps that would allow the standard dewDrop build to be converted as it gets added to.

Well I made some good progress on this yesterday. Got as far as being able to create an Amazon instance and get it running directly from the dewdrop machine.

Unfortunately the kernel bombed out so need to go back and revisit what kernel is currently inside dewdrop and look at adding an alternate in ?grub?.

Still determining if this is in fact the issue though as the preceding errors on boot are..
EXT3-fs: sda1: couldn't mount because of unsupported optional features (240) and a similar message for EXT2-fs.

Still investigating these.

Still hopeful to be able to publish a simple set of steps to enable anyone to put this machine up on amazon.
