Hi,

Can anyone clarify the path structure in EnterMedia?

Most of the images we display and reference on our website are under this style path

media/catalogs/public/downloads/preview/custom_carousel/users/xxxx.xxxx/2017/03/xxxxx.JPG/xxxxx.jpg
media/catalogs/public/downloads/preview/custom_2x2/users/xxxx.xxxx/2014/02/xxxxx.jpg/carousel_2x2.jpg
media/catalogs/public/downloads/preview/custom_teaser_medium/users/xxxx.xxxx/2013/08/xxxxx.jpg/teaser_medium.jpg

However, recently I have noticed a significant number of images be created under this style path

/opt/entermedia/webapp/WEB-INF/data/media/catalogs/public/generated/users/xxxx.xxxx/2017/07/xxxxx.jpg

What is the significance of the "generated" path? Do originals sit under this?
Are they safe to delete?

I have seen this page: https://entermediadb.org/knowledge/deleting-assets-in-bulk/ but not sure if they are safe to delete.

Thanks for any pointers

Hi,

The files under the generated folder are different format files automatically generated by the DAM every time you upload an asset into it. Depending on the version of the DAM you're running on, you can custom that behavior to enable/disable the auto generation of these files.

If you're using the DAM to only store/work/share original assets, you can safely delete the generated files, otherwise we do recommend you to leave them in place.

Best regards.

Hi Thomas,

Thanks very much for your reply. We are running entermedia-server-8.2169.jar
We do display non-originals as per the 3 urls below, but none of these are under the "generated" path. Is there a difference between generated and those 3 paths shown below that show non-original images?

Where would the option be to disable the "generated" images?

Also - I have noticed that quite a lot of the generated images are of images we uploaded over 12 months ago - could these be created due to a certain process accessing the original?

Regards,

Allen.

Couple of pointers:

Generated media can be created on the fly just by someone going to the link the first time.

The generated and original folders are used to store the media that we create or is uploaded. Our media database just points to those locations on the file system.
