In my last post on the Black diamond, where I cited the Sex and the City 2 movie, Rozantia, a loyal reader of this blog mentioned that she would have to notice jewellery in the movies with special attention. Her comment made me think of all the precious and costume jewels I have admired in Hollywood films. Here are some of my favourite onscreen jewellery moments with analysis of Iconic Jewellery in Hollywood films.
Jennifer Lopez as Marrissa Ventura is stunning naturally. I actually thought that she looked better in her maid uniform than the evening gown, an overload of blush and diamond necklace. However, that diamond necklace was a cluster Harry Winston wreath; you never hate a Harry Winston wreath!
Queen Clarisse Renaldi and Princess Mia wear beautiful crowns in part 1 of the film. But what impressed me more were the jewels by Chopard in her closet in part 2. It was only when researching this article, I came to know that Chopard even made such high jewellery, for I had always considered them to be a luxury watch brand. That remote-controlled wardrobe is just mmmmmmm! I wish that I could at least store the jewellery that I make like that.
This list of iconic jewellery in Hollywood films is not complete by a long shot. I wanted to include jewellery made of various materials and chose films accordingly. I have left out costume dramas such as Cleopatra, Marie Antoniette, and Elizabeth, which overflow with jaw-dropping jewels. Since I cited Sex and the city in the black diamonds post and wrote about the Carrie necklace in my post from 2018 monogram jewellery trend I am excluding it from this list. More than films, there are many fantastic pieces in TV shows to write about. Hopefully, I will do that in the future.
I remember the necklace in Pretty Woman and how can one forget the blue sapphire ? I think movies about teenagers can easily become trend setters but, of course, the trends must be very thoughtfully developed.
Imagine the magnificent Palazzo del Cinema on the Lungomare Marconi in Venice; a relic of a grander time lined with a red carpet, packed with photographers, buzzing support staff, celebrities, and members of the public jostling to see the latest movies. Now spare a thought for me, excited (and a little bit nervous of course) waiting for my time on the red carpet as a guest! The 79th Annual Venice International Film Festival, much like the Cannes Film Festival, which I also attended, operates on an invite-only basis for the red carpet. Fortunately, Aydin Hassanzadeh, the founder of Hassanzadeh Jewellers, is responsible for adorning many guests with fine diamonds and, therefore, he was able to bring me into this Venetian world for a few days.
Once it stopped raining, the clock showed 9.15 pm, which was my turn to go on the red carpet. Having several slots to enter the area by Palazzo del Cinema ensures that each guest has time to smile and pose for the camera. I had a dedicated photographer waiting for me among several dozens of other official photographers and cameramen who filmed the red carpet. It was a far less stressful experience than in Cannes as no one walks behind you to get to the Cinema Palace while you are working the camera, and no one would accidentally push you or step on your dress. When we see the photos of A-listers on the empty red carpet, it is not the experience of all other attendees who must go inside faster and pose within a few minutes.
Despite the logistics, the weather, and the madness of being involved in such an international affair, I am thrilled I had the chance to attend the Venice Film Festival 2022. To represent the jewellery industry wearing Hassanzadeh diamonds was a personal treat for me but also an important milestone in my professional mission to make more women fall in love with jewellery. I hope you think I did jewellery proud on the night.
Gemstones and jewellery have been important in many books and many movies. Everyone loves to see the sparkle of a diamond on a beautiful woman. The thought of having wealth, including expensive jewels, is very attractive. In the movies of Alfred Hitchcock gemstones and jewellery are often central to the plot.
Jewellery is a woman's best friend, and we saw that in many iconic movies. We love to see powerful women wearing symbolic pieces of art, which gave them a unique charm. Actresses like Marilyn Monroe, Audrey Hepburn, Nicole Kidman, Kate Hudson, and Natalie Portman wore unique jewellery that made it in the movie business history.
When we watch a movie, we see just the final results. But the viewers don't know the amount of work behind the film. There are many things to take care of, including the wardrobe, the location, the prop, and different accessories, including jewellery. The last part may seem a minor detail, but small things make the difference. It's evident that if there weren't remarkable and talented women, the beauty of the jewellery would faint. So, let's see what are the most famous jewellery that remained emblematic for the movie industry.
In Breakfast at Tiffany's, Audrey Hepburn wore a veritable iconic piece of jewellery, which caused a big fuss throughout history. Many replicas have appeared on the market after the movie premiere. The character Holly Golightly interpreted by the famous Audrey Hepburn, made her film appearance in a black dress designed by the famed French designer Hubert de Givenchy, with a pair of satin elbow-length gloves, her tortoiseshell Oliver Goldsmith sunglasses, and ropes and ropes of pearls. Roger Scemama designed the layered pearl necklace and it was pice de rsistance. The necklace fell perfectly on the actresses' back, highlighting the backless shape of the dress. It was the perfect accessory for the movie.
The well-known movie "Gentlemen Prefer Blondes" starring the actress Marilyn Monroe, an iconic actress, made a big fuss. The famous star wore one of the oldest pieces of jewellery used in movies, as it was over 500 years old at the time. It was held initially by the Maharajah of Baroda, India, and was later worn by Empress Maria Theresa of Austria and Marie Antoinette at one point. In reality, Maharajah's diamond was stolen by Nadir Shah in 1739, and it was found 200 years later. Meyer Rosenbaum of Detroit acquired it in 1943 and let Monroe use it for the film.
Natalie Portman had an outstanding performance in the movie "The other Boleyn girl". In "The Other Boleyn Girl", Natalie Portman's necklace was notable because it closely resembled Ann Boleyn's actual necklace, as shown in her portraits. The necklace featured a string made of pearls and three teardrop-shaped pear pears.
The movie "How to lose a guy in ten days" is an iconic comedy that had one of the most expensive pieces of jewellery from the film. The character of Kate Hudson, Andie Anderson, has worn a necklace worth millions, created by the Harry Winston designer. The pendant necklace Isadora (named after Isadora Duncan) is an 80-carat diamond in the movie, and Kate Hudson killed it in the famous "Frost Yourself" gala scene. The actress wore a yellow satin gown that fitted perfectly on her.
The star of the movie "Moulin Rouge" Nicole Kidman, who played the main character, Satine, worn fabulous jewellery created by the Australian jeweller Stefano Canturi. The artist claims he was influenced by the Louis XVI style, which included openwork lace designs, scrolls, and opulent bodice jewels and was popular in France in the late 1800s.
