In physical oceanography, undertow is the undercurrent that moves offshore while waves approach the shore. Undertow is a natural and universal feature for almost any large body of water; it is a return flow compensating for the onshore-directed average transport of water by the waves in the zone above the wave troughs. The undertow's flow velocities are generally strongest in the surf zone, where the water is shallow and the waves are high due to shoaling.[1]

In popular usage, the word undertow is often misapplied to rip currents.[2] An undertow occurs everywhere underneath shore-approaching waves, whereas rip currents are localized narrow offshore currents occurring at certain locations along the coast.[3]

The term undertow is used in scientific coastal oceanography papers.[5][6][7] The distribution of flow velocities in the undertow over the water column is important as it strongly influences the on- or offshore transport of sediment. Outside the surf zone there is a near-bed onshore-directed sediment transport induced by Stokes drift and skewed-asymmetric wave transport. In the surf zone, strong undertow generates a near-bed offshore sediment transport. These antagonistic flows may lead to sand bar formation where the flows converge near the wave breaking point, or in the wave breaking zone.[5][6][7][8]

An exact relation for the mass flux of a nonlinear periodic wave on an inviscid fluid layer was established by Levi-Civita in 1924.[9] In a frame of reference according to Stokes' first definition of wave celerity, the mass flux M w \displaystyle M_w of the wave is related to the wave's kinetic energy density E k \displaystyle E_k (integrated over depth and thereafter averaged over wavelength) and phase speed c \displaystyle c through:

In contrast to undertow, rip currents are responsible for the great majority of drownings close to beaches. When a swimmer enters a rip current, it starts to carry them offshore. The swimmer can exit the rip current by swimming at right angles to the flow, parallel to the shore, or by simply treading water or floating until the rip releases them. However, drowning can occur when swimmers exhaust themselves by trying unsuccessfully to swim directly against the flow of a rip.

I found that my original problem was resolved but for some reason I can't login to the management web console - it just blocks with initial loading progress bar - no obvious errors on the UI or the server.

I have been unable to find any documentation on updating/upgrading Undertow on Wildfly. Also, the only link to libraries I found was on Maven Central Site ( > ga1g%3A%22io.undertow%22). Is there any documentation on upgrading these Undertow Modules?

As to updating within the 1.1.x branch of Undertow, if you look at the actual changes from 1.1.0-Final and up, you'll find it's just bug-fixes. The problem I'm facing is that not all bug fixes make it back into 1.1.x, and some of what hasn't made it into 1.1.x is important for our servers here.

It's been suggested that I move from Undertow 1.1.x to 1.2.8, but I too face the dilemma of figuring out if Wildfly 8.2 will work reliably with the Undertow 1.2.x branch. I'd like to know if that can be done without needing to upgrade all of Wildfly - the goal here is to make a stable/reliable platform so I'd like to minimize how much of the Wildfly package gets updated. Can we get away with updating just the Undertow Jars, or will more be needed?

Undertow 1.1.5 was just cut. It won't fix everything that's been found wrong with Undertow, but it fixes everything that's been identified by my department in the field. As it's still on the same branch, it's unlikely it will add more bugs than it fixes, so my department will use 1.1.5.

Undertow Shows are intimate events hosted by fans in private spaces such as: living rooms, lofts, recording studios, coffee shops, museums, yoga studios, bike shops, churches, indoor skate parks, and more. Each show is completely unique. We try to find the most accommodating spaces for both the artist and the fans. Things we always consider when choosing show locations; acoustics of the room, accessibility, available seating and proximity to parking and public transportation. It all adds up to a magical experience.

Email is the best way to reach us: he...@undertowshows.com. Or call us if you want to chat: 217-359-0622. We're usually in the office Monday through Friday from 10am to 5pm (Central time). Outside of office hours, it's best to email and we'll follow up as soon as we're back at work.

Undertow is still encouraging COVID-19 safety precautions at shows. The mask policy is dependent on the host and artist preference for each show. Please check the individual show page for the policy for the show you're attending. The policy for each show will also be specified on your ticket.

Guests experiencing fever, cough, or other respiratory symptoms are asked to stay home. Due to the limited number of tickets available for each show, all sales are final, no refunds will be issued due to illness.

You put the vanilla and cream in a cup, and pour the espresso over an upside down spoon on top of the cream. The goal is to prevent the shot and the cream from mixing, because you take it as one shot and you want it to make two distinct layers of hot and cold.

Coffee Zone: They had never heard of it, but after I explained it they were curious enough to try. Theirs was great and layered almost perfectly, and the espresso was mild enough to make it a great all-around undertow.

Just like in the rivers, there will be noticeable currents in places and hardly any current in other places. Obviously the larger and more exposed the lake or pit you are fishing then the more they will be affected by the wind and then of course undertow. Since I have been looking at the waters I fish like that, it has become pretty obvious why some areas produce plenty of fish and some very few at all despite the topography appearing very similar in two different swims. What I have now found myself doing is taking a lot more interest in the topography for a considerable distance either side of my swim for it is from the other swims that the undertow will be forming.

Going back to the strange happening I was noticing with the indicators where some days and some swims the bobbins would hang at half-mast all day yet a couple of swims away they would be constantly pulling up tight really emphasises to me the difference in the underwater currents in different parts.

Grenville in Cambridgeshire where I fish a lot so naturally mention it a lot is a prime example of channelled undertow and it doing something completely different to what the casual observer would expect. Now everything is greatly exaggerated at Grenville. It is big, it is open and it is deep but also has a lot of relatively shallow areas too. You can have a 35ft channel running alongside a 16ft plateau. My mate Phil Calloway has dived it and has come up against what are basically walls under the water. Now a flow hitting one of those walls is always going to take the easy way around it and the ends will have a good flow whipping around which can be put to your advantage in regards to spreading the attraction from your bait. That is of course if your bait does actually emit attraction that spreads underwater rather than lifting to the surface as you see with oil which will rise and drift off on the surface rather than drift along in the currents under the surface. With the right sort of additions to your bait you can send a big attraction band under the water covering a decent area for the fish to pick up on once you have a better idea of what the underwater currents are doing.

Remember what I wrote about the effects of turbulent wind on some strains of carp and others behaving in a seemingly opposite way? Always bear this in mind. On the whole, fish enjoy the effect of undertow and will happily laze around with the flow moving over their heads. I presume it makes breathing easier for them for a start. The areas I try and fathom out are the creases, just the same as you would fish on the river where a flow joins with a slack. It is here that you will start to get a larger build up of natural food and they can be excellent areas to present your baits.

From keeping fish since I was a nipper the thing I often repeat to people is that you are looking after the water, you simply need to learn how to keep water. Do that and the fish look after themselves.

Hydroid was one of the most underrated frames before his rework. I mailed him and he was a monster when used correctly. Undertow was key to his survivability. Losing that skill was detrimental to him.

That being said, I do like the idea of his new plunder. I think it was needed for damage, but couldn't undertow have been combined with maybe tidal surge? Hold to enter undertow, tap to surge? We have done this with other frames, zephyr and vauban stand out particularly.

I know many didn't like hydroid before the rework, but since he lost undertow he lost a huge survivability skill which was a huge help in steel path, end game tier missions. 2000 armor(which is not easy to get with plunder due to its bugginess) really doesn't mean much in high level steel path. Dropping into a puddle to recover shields and possibly cc enemies mid mission was way more effective for surviving.

Its same how they butchered grendel, he after lvl 3000 k could one shot enemies with his gut full and pulverize , scaling + nourish.. Now. Its fun on get go, certain things got better, but his essence glutony(and scaling) got taken away. Same like with hydroid in many aspects he is better, but his niche thing undertow with yoinking enemies into pudle or old others shoot the pudle to apply certain status effects are gone...

@Antifreeze I agree that in theory his rework potential was good, plunder would be better if it wasn't line of sight. That really makes it mediocre, but the idea is there and good. Hydroid needed some kind of damage buff. That works perfect, but the cost(losing undertow) makes him nearly unplayable in steel path or anything end game. Sad to let my pirate man go heh.
