Mumbai Saga is apparently inspired by true events. I think there is a compelling story here of how the contours and conscience of the city shifted in 1996 and what was lost when Bombay became Mumbai. But Sanjay isnt really interested in that. His aim is to glorify men and guns. But the tools in his arsenal slick editing, green-toned filters and the painfully loud sound design (there isnt a car in this film that doesnt screech to a halt) are too limited to fill the hole that is the story. You can watch Mumbai Saga at a theater near you. Dont forget to wear a mask!

On the whole, Mumbai Saga is a good masala fare for the masses but it holds limited appeal for the classes and family audiences. Its title further restricts its appeal as Saga is not a commonly used English word and also because Mumbai in the title makes the story more relevant for the audience in Bombay.

Mumbai Saga, for all its guts and gore, goes all soggy, and soppy, in the finale. There is a younger brother that the hero is determined to save from harm. Trapped in superficialities and cliched tropes, the film itself could have used a rescue act.

Mumbai Saga is definitely a good watch if you go to the cinemas just to chill for some time. Go, enjoy the action and come back. Dont take too much inspiration from this saga, dont put pressure on your brain after watching it.

A lot of it works because they come from strong and motivated characters, although, one too many. Their conflicts are relentless and interesting, especially, because it shows Mumbais turbulent past, which is chillingly real. The first-half is especially engaging with John Abraham beating up the bad guys and everything else in the process. But in a bid to make it a larger-than-life crime potboiler, Gupta also falls prey to the curse of the second half. Here, some of the plot-twists, conflicts and complications become overwhelmingly difficult to handle. However, there is enough paisa-vasool action, thrill and guns galore.

The 127-minute movie is routinely low on brain work but always bursting with bombast. Packed with Sanjay Guptas trademark flourishes aphoristic dialogue, massive close-ups, shots of men walking chest out and in slow motion towards the camera, scenes lensed through a jaundice-yellow filter Mumbai Saga works hard to live up to its title.

Mumbai Saga is purely for the entertainment hungry souls of Bollywood who love action and are fascinated by Bollywood dons and cops bole toh on screen bhai log or police. As said earlier Mumbai Saga is a massy action-packed crowd pleaser with two popular stars John Abraham, Emraan Hashmi, taali bajao dialouges, good action. The reason we visit those single screens.

Amartya Rao, a bold and ruthless gangster, dreams of ruling the city of dreams, Bombay. Meanwhile, Inspector Vijay Savarkar is after Rao, tracking his every move. Will Savarkar be able to stop Rao from accomplishing his goal?
