Hi,
I am currently working on a outbound operation that emails a file that is picked up through an inbound ftp service. I am wondering if anyone has taken an inbound text file and converted to xls, maybe using record mapper..I know UNIX has WriteExcel.pm but this is not an option at this point..
Thanks in advance

Hi Bax,

I just recently created a way for Ensemble to take an .XLSX file and convert it to a .CSV file for consumption by a record mapper inbound service using some Apache POI code external from the engine. I recall seeing some stuff in there to go back the other way should you so choose. PM me if you want to hear details. Maybe it will work for you, maybe not - but it was at least a decent way to convert Excel files to CSV when the platform running Ensemble is as far from Windows as you can get - in this case AIX :-) Given a little more time I would probably import the external Java classes with some mods via the Java Gateway and just do it all as stream-based classes from within Ensemble - no OS commands necessary. But alas - too many freaky projects, too little time! :-)

Hi Bax Ter,

Excel has a format called “Spreadsheet XML 2003”

This is one XML but Excel opens like a “normal” spreadsheet.

I used it a lot when a Caché routine must generate one Excel spreadsheet

And it’s is easy doing reverse engineering, to save one spreadsheet like you need using Excel and then look at the XML for to know how it is constructed

Regards

Manel
