My printer does not work at all anymore. Scan, copy and print functions are unavailable. The power, Wifi, ink and paper lights are flashing. I would like to reset it, as I think it might be a hardware update error. Please provide me any information on how to reset it.

I saw this in another thread and wasnt sure if i should start a new one, but here it goes. I installed the chipless firmware about 2 weeks ago and its worked great. But now i need to replace the maintenance box, so i think in the thread i saw that i need to downgrade the firmware to the original and then use my recovery code and reinstall the chipless firmware.

My question is, can someone give me a guide or directions on what steps i need to take to do this please? I saved the recovery code but other than that im not sure what to do or how to get the original firmware back. Thanks.

So you have installed your new Chipless Firmware, and its working great. Ur loving the ink always staying full. But low and behold, no one told u that the Maintenance Box is not affected by the firmware, in fact it is, but in a bad way. The Chipless Firmware stops the printer from letting you replace the maintenance box. On the original firmware, i just had to use a chip resetter when it was nearly at the end of its cycle and put it back in and voila done. But on the chipless firmware that doesnt work. I guess its wise they dont mention this as its not a great sales pitch for the firmware if they tell you that youll have to continously go back to your old firmware to install new maintenance boxes. But anyways here is what i did.

Dana is out today and maybe online later this evening to help you. I will try my best with this issue. These errors are commonly addressed in our FAQs on large format carts. What is unusual is that you have been using these carts and suddenly all four on one side of your printer are not working. The resetter is behaving as expected, but the chips are not being read. Are you 100% absolutely sure that the carts are in the correct positions? Some our refillable carts can fit in any position. The chips of course are position dependent. Please double check that.

If so, you can take the chip off this Epson cart and adhere it to your refillable cart and start printing today. It pries off easily and you attach it FIRMLY with double sided sticky tape. We have a doc on how to do that on this website.

But, we also noticed that you placed a Web order with us for a set of carts for the 4880 printer and you are indicating that your printer model is a 4800. It is strange that the carts worked at all in your printer. But, now that they have been encoded by the Epson driver - resetting is probably scrambling them. I believe that you should buy a new set of chips and completely replace all of the chips. If you intended to order carts for your 4800 you certainly did not.

This is the first time we have heard of anyone being able to use 4880 carts in a 4800 printer. But, I think that your issue is reprogramming of a confused chip at this point. I think that as you progress to refilling the others it will happen again unless you replace the chips with the 4800 chips you actually require.

Is there some chance at this point that you actually do have a 4880 printer? Or are you certain that you have a 4800 printer. I will send you a copy of your original web order to confirm you purchased a 4880 set of carts.

While the 4880 carts can fit into a 4800 printer, the chips are totally different. I do not understand why initially the 4800 printer accepted the 4880 chips. But, eventually the printer begins encoding the chips with remaining ink levels and other information. And the fields and strings which it uses are different for the 4880 printer than they are for the 4800. When you went to reset the chips, they were obviously scrambled from having gone through an identity crisis.

The chips come pre-programmed and read full, etc. and have many different fields containing bits and strings, etc that are required for the printer to operate initially. During printing, the printer itself begins to record data onto the chips. Mostly this data is the amount of ink level remaining that it has computed by counting the drops printed and the amount of ink consumed during cleaning operations.

If you attached the Epson chips to the refill carts, reset the chips to read full, and they were all working well- why did you then remove them and attach the replacement chips we sent, instead of just printing with the Epson chips attached and keeping the ones we sent as spares?

Something weird happened with my printer. I can not login to web interface 192.168.192.168/webconfig. Also, I can not ping it. I tried to reset it to factory settings with pushing the reset button on the back side of the printer. It did not work. Maybe someone faced the same issue before. How can I bring my printer IP settings back?

I've always really liked Epson printers. I bought my first one, an Epson C46, in my first year at Uni and after printing tens of thousands of pages with cheap replacement inks it's still going and still works pretty well. Sure, it had a kill-switch that meant for no reason it refused to work after a few thousand pages, but I fixed that with the excellent SSC Service Utility and just kept going. I've reset the waste ink counter five times now with no damage to the printer.

The C46 was really cheap (about 40 in about 2003), really loud and really slow and when I needed a new printer I of course got an Epson one, with wifi and a scanner thrown in for fun. I really liked it, until after about 8 weeks when all kinds of problems started kicking off. I wrote anextremely popular review about it on Amazon so I won't bore you here but once I started investigating things it was clear that SSC Service Utility wasn't going to fix the problem because Epson have added extra encryption to "encourage" you to buy a new printer. Loads of people suggested ways around the problem, none of the suggestions worked. It turns out that most people who make suggestions haven't used them and are just morons trying to tell you that you're an idiot to make their lives feel better. To add insult to injury Epson's engineers have cleverly disabled the fully functional scanner because the printer part of the box "required" a "service", aka a replacement. Silly.

I wrote to Epson to let them know how disappointed I was and got a pathetic identikit corporate response with an offer to rip me off even more. Here's the letter so make up your own mind, it's actually quite polite.

I did some more reading and it turns out that Epson's practice of deliberately disabling a fully functioning product at an artificially capped lifespan and deliberately stopping a user from fixing the problem is probably illegal under EU law, specifically the WEEE regulation on electronic waste, so I wrote to my MEP, Linda McAvan. Now I have to say she did a lot of hard work on this and I've earned a lot of respect for her but ultimately Epson are a big company with lots of money and I am just a citizen with the law on my side so really there was only going to be one winner here. At least I got a letter from the Office of Fair Trade essentially saying I was a pathetic little runt and that I should accept my place in the world.

Okay so. What am I doing now? Well once my printer was a write-off I knew I could start taking some risks so I download some really dodgy software from bittorrent, followed the instructions and KAPOW!!!! my printer is fixed. I've not found anywhere online to download this software and I wouldn't So now I'm sharing my story and the software I downloaded here. Just download and follow the instructions. It will probably work on similar printers to the one I have (px700 series, probably also the px800 series).

Disclaimer: THIS SOFTWARE IS NOT WRITTEN BY ME. IT WAS OBTAINED FROM A DODGY BITTORRENT SITE. IT MAY RUIN YOUR PRINTER! IT MAY CONTAIN A VIRUS! IF YOU USE IT, IT'S ON YOUR BACK NOT MINE! DON'T BLAME ME IF STUFF GOES WRONG!

Despite all those warnings Epson don't really like me making this software available and contacted me on the 1st of July asking me to remove the software from my site. You can seeour full correspondance here and I'm very happy to comply with their request if they can get someone in my own country to explain their objections to me. I wonder if the American lawyer who contacted me realised the irony of asking me to remove the software from a UK-hosted site, at a UK-registered domain just three days before the 4th of July, the date he celebrated declaring independence from my home nation. Probably not. It's been two working weeks since I replied to Epson's request to take down the software, they have not bothered to get in touch.

NOTE: This resetter can only be used on a maintenance tank that is not already reading full. In addition, you will need a second maintenance tank, this one can be empty or full.

Remove the Epson cartridge T0711, T0712, T0713, T0714 from your printer and place it on the table as picture 1 shows. Turn the cartridge, so that the black label faces ou. Stab through the black film at the place marked in picture 1 and 2. Use a syringe or needle for that.
