Payday2 is a cooperative first-person shooter video game that has gained large popularity. However, lots of users encounter Payday 2 crashing. Why does the issue happen? How to get rid of this issue. All these are discussed in this post.
Why does Payday keep crashing? Many factors can lead to Payday 2 crashing, such as the installed mods, Steam overlay, outdated drivers, and more. Based on these factors, some solutions are displayed below.
I've recently purchased the Payday 2 Ultimate Edition on Steam. While playing the game, it unexpectedly crashes (quite often). Looking at the crashlog.txt file found in my AppData folder, every crash seems to be caused by the "access violation" error. I've read around on the internet and found some articles, such as this one, that suggests some things to try. So far, I've tried the following:
I do not have any mods, nor did I ever have any, since I only just got the game for PC. The crashes occur mostly during game play, but it has crashed once while in the menu of the game as well.
There are a few programs that have been reported as causing issues when installed alongside PAYDAY 2, if you are using any of them and you are experiencing performance issues or crashes you might want to consider any alternatives. We would like to point out that we have not confirmed these issues but we have seen reports about these or issues that no longer appeared once the program was no longer running.
What interested me the most was the EVGA PrecisionX bullet. I do not have the PrecisionX software, but I do have MSI Afterburner, which is a similar program that I use and let run in the background most of the time.
So, I exited my MSI Afterburner software (thus killing all of its processes), and so far, I've been able to play the game for a much longer time now without any crashes (probably about 5 hours total without any crashing yet). With MSI Afterburner running, I could rarely make it past 30 minutes without a crash occuring. So it seems that MSI Afterburner was the cause of the crashes in my case.
I was held up at balota about a couple of days ago, by about four guys, although my squad outnumbered them 3-1 we asked them why they're shooting at us, they replied "You're bandits, you're wearing gas masks" in all honesty I think they were just looking for a excuse to kill.
now on the other hand, payday masks are often a sign of banditry although i do see some randoms pick them up and just think they look cool therefore they put them on. I do shoot on sight if I see someone with a payday mask (except wolf one) due to a bad experience in Elektro.
Apparently these are a sign you are a bandit now? I really don't know, if someone'd be kind enough as to clear this up for me that'd be great, because if it is, then I'll be able to see them a mile away XD
Not sure about gas masks, but full camo and gear make you seem more "military" and thus more likely to shoot. And the payday masks just mean that you're a douchebag, and I'll shoot you to save time if you wear one of those :).
Personally I want to shoot anyone that wears a mask. In the mod you couldnt see a bandits face and in this game I think that side of me carried over. You just look crooked if you where one. Personally only mask you're allowed to have is a burlap sack. Unfortunately I am friendly so I end up dieing a lot to people with masks because I have a rule of trying to talk to EVERY player I see. However if 1 shot is fired I will shoot them. If they point their gun at me mid conversation or won't put it down I will shoot. Never trust a guy in a mask. Just my opinion.
I play in a giant group that has a military background in the game and also various actual military (former or present) members in the group. So you'd assume they actually aim for not just a military way of doing certain things but also a certain identical look. My point: Good / friendly people wearing military gear and even masks. Gas masks also add some slight camo to your face, dunno about the glasses on certain graphic settings though. Not to mention already existing or potential upcoming features for certain masks.
On the other hand, the guy that's totally friendly and nice looking might axe your face in. Why not? Could be a bandit that died and is just gearing up. Or someone fooling people. While the totally armed nice guy is just trying to survive with good gear.
So, depending on where and when you play and what kind of people you meet, gear doesn't have to mean everything. The only thing I'd agree to is that by chance or on average, fully geared people in general MIGHT be more scared. Some could be too attached to their loot they invested time in or are just out to kill people.
Perceptions change based on previous experiences. Every encounter I have had with someone wearing a gas mask has resulted in my death which, on all but one occasion, was facilitated by bullets without any prior verbal contact. Therefore, for me, gasmask = douchey bandit shitwipe that will be shot if they so much as flinch in my direction.
Gas mask does not necessarily mean bandit but quite often it does, some nice people may wear payday masks but I wouldn't trust anyone in one. Some people try to dress friendly looking and some people try to look bandity but you can't judge a book by it's cover.
I personally don't wear masks or helmets because I think they make you look more banditesque but we are all different, it's not like there is or could be a rule about it. Besides even if it was an unwritten rule bandits wear masks, Heros wear cowboy hats, you would still get some bandits in cowboy hats in disguise or some non bandits in masks because they didn't know.
I'm waiting for a purpose for the gas masks. Then this misconception will go. Right now I've been killed by gas masked people, but also helped. Wow, a mask covers your face in game. That face shows no emotion, how would it help you seeing it. How do you know I got something to hide just because I have a gas mask. I've killed people because I had to while wearing a beanie. Payday ones yes, I find them stupid, but the gas mask is okay.
occ fix 2 is for another similar crash. these 2 mods should not bring any issue. But if there IS issue happening to you, you can try removing occ fix 2 or put a crash log here. I don't think these 2 mod causing any issue, but I'm glad to solve your problem.
I have a Ryzen 7 3700x, DDR4 32GB 3600Mhz, Intel Arc A750. Everytime I try and launch Payday 3 it crashes. It has never done this before until I switched to an Intel Arc. It gets the the starbeeze logo and then crashes.

If you are still having issues with crashes, please read how to find your crash.txt file, which contains information about your game crash, and then create a new thread on the Bug Reporting Forum on Steam or the Official PAYDAY Discord's Bug Reporting Forum including the contents of your crash.txt file.
If you are the lobby leader (green callsign), you are able to kick the player from your game. You can also add them to your ban list from the pause menu, meaning they can no longer join any of your games.
It is! Joining the Official PAYDAY 2 Steam Community or logging into a Starbreeze Nebula Account in-game will grant you access to some extra content, including heists and heisters. Also, take a look at the Social Safe Web Site for more free content.
If you need more assistance or just want to discuss the game, check out our PD:TH Discussion Forums on Steam. If I own the Wolfpack DLC in PD:TH, do I get it for free in PAYDAY 2?Yes, as long as the same Steam Account owns PD:TH and the Wolfpack DLC, and PAYDAY 2.
i was playing election day and all of a sudden my game crashed, i got back in and my save was completely gone including cloud it keeps saying save corrupted and the only save i have is from months ago when i was level 10.
this has happened to me multiple times. A few years back i was infamy 7 or 8 and my game data just corrupted. Unfortunately, there isn't a fix. I'm currently saving my game data onto 2 different usb sticks just in case i accidentally overwrite a current usb save with corrupted data, thus i can fall back onto the other usb. The game is extremely buggy and is nothing like the pc version. Hopefully payday 3 is less buggy
USB Drives are dirt cheap these days so there's zero excuse for not having one and doing a manual backup at the end of every session. Relying on automation to take care of your save file backups is foolish so you only have yourself to blame if the system goes pearshaped and doesn't backup anything. I always do manual backups to both the Cloud and my USB drive at the end of every session so if something does go wrong, I have a double backup to fall back on.
I had a friend experience this glitch suddenly during the game as well. On Hoxton's Revenge. My friend lost progress 3 years ago, dumb that it's still in the game, sadly this game is done now. Only am missing the lvl 25 infamy trophy. Have to be careful with this game, having a 250+ hour trophy with a progression loss glitch is baffling to me. Have been backing up saves like the other people, but with the Ps5 using a USB is out of the question. Hopefully I can get this trophy so I can just play on PC when I want a Payday itch scratched.
