Windowsdevice installation uses digital signatures to verify the integrity of driver packages and to verify the identity of the vendor (software publisher) who provides the driver packages. In addition, the kernel-mode code signing policy for 64-bit versions of Windows Vista and later versions of Windows specifies that a kernel-mode driver must be signed for the driver to load.

Windows 10 for desktop editions (Home, Pro, Enterprise, and Education) and Windows Server 2016 kernel-mode drivers must be signed by the Windows Hardware Dev Center Dashboard, which requires an EV certificate. For details, see Driver Signing Policy.

All drivers for Windows 10 (starting with version 1507, Threshold 1) signed by the Hardware Dev Center are SHA2 signed. For details specific to operating system versions, see Signing requirements by version.

Kernel-mode driver binaries embed signed with dual (SHA1 and SHA2) certificates from a third party certificate vendor for operating systems earlier than Windows 10 may not load, or may cause a system crash on Windows 10. To fix this problem, install KB 3081436.

I have a device from a silicone developer and WIN10x64. With this device comes the driver with a good digital signature. But I need to rename the device name "silicone cp210x" to my name "Example" in the device's installation driver. I'm using a utility - CustomUSBDriverWizard.exe to create a renamed installation driver, but the installer is created without a digital signature ".cat" file. Is there a way to create my digital signature for Windows or to adapt the driver certificate for the name of the "silicone cp210x" for my name "Example"?Disable digital signature verification or contact Microsoft for the digital signature of the driver with my name - these options do not need me. Perhaps there is a program for editing digital signatures of drivers or creating new digital signatures based on an inf. and sys. file?

The first one, W10 21.1 driver, PROWinx64.exe. The same behavior with the packet from ASUS (they use the same driver). Anyway, is not a a problem with the download, md5 is correct, and cd version is the same driver too, same problem.

Hi Theliel, thanks for the information, while i'm still investigating your issue. please continue to use the working driver (version 12.12.226.0). Have you tried contacting ASUS regarding your issue, they can confirm if other similar system also encounters the same problem with version 12.15.184.0.

Seen work fine, finally. However, I have not tested with the installation from ProSet, but updating the Driver directly by extracting it from ProSet (With the previous version, it was impossible in any way). I see that the version for I211 is the same (at least the version number), although the date differs.

I have windows 7 sp1 and have attempted to install the device drivers for the AC1900 wifi adapter...they install but they fail to install due to the digital signature NOT being recognized, hence the OS ignores them and i cannot use the new adapter.

well, after about a dozen reboots i finally got to the advanced screen, disabled driver signature enforcement and attempted to install the software which continued to fail, this time because under safe mode the OS did not recognize the installation program and hence failed to install the drivers.

and i confirmed that it was turned off using bcdedit.... then reinstalled the software and i continue to get the digital signature not verified notice in device manager when i click on the item.

I have not tried disabling driver verification (its a boot option) to install this. I assume it would work, but since I am not required to do that on Win7, I'd more like to figure out what's going on here.

On 8, I've gotten no such option, it seems signing is enforced. This is annoying, and I imagine there must be a way to turn it off (otherwise, what happens to legacy devices that don't have driver support?).

Well after a day struggling with this i'll go back to 7.

It seems that the driver must be signed.. strange because it's part of windows.

Hope in a future this is solved, but for now it's to soon to adopt Windows 8 Consumer Preview as a stable PC OS to use with a Arduino.

I have come up with an alternative method to install the Arduino drivers on Windows 8. This method does not require new driver files or installation of a test signature. Windows Key + R Enter shutdown.exe /r /o /f /t 00 Click the "OK" button...

Update:

If you have a new system that came with Win 8 pre-installed, Secure Boot has probably been enabled in the BIOS.

The steps above, probably will not work unless Secure Boot has been disabled in the BIOS before performing these steps.

Thanks for sharing! I'm trying to access this menu using Windows 8 Release Preview on my Samsung 7 Slate. When I arrive at the screen to select "Disable Driver Signature Enforcement", nothing happens. My USB keyboard isn't registering, is there something I'm missing re: how to access this menu item? Thanks in advance for your help!

Hi all, I have been here for hours trying to sort my printer out. My printer and computer have worked together brilliantly for the past 5 years, however today, i tried to print and it didn't allow me, saying that the printer is basically an unkown device and my PC is missing the drivers. I spent an hour and half online with Windows who told me to do various things, none of which worked. It is still saying "the driver cannot be installed because it is either not digitally signed or not signed in the appropriate manner. contact your hardware vendor"

It seems like a recent update may have changed the system settings and caused the issue with the printer driver rendering it unstable, so all we need to do, is remove the printer using the root level technique (I'll show you how) and reinstall it using the HP website (I'll give you the link).

So i tried everything you suggested - it all seemed to be going well and then I got to the reinstallation of the the software and connecting via the wireless network and there was a problem under 'Network Printer Installation', it says, 'Unable to find connection/Network', even though the wireless is on, on the printer and showing an IP address, it is also the correct network shown. So it's all having to be connected through the USB and not the wireless again!

If a full feature driver from HP is not available for your printer, you must install the built-in print driver. A full feature driver for one or more Windows versions is not available for your printer, either from the CD that shipped with your printer or from the HP website.

Where is the download button? The HP print driver is built into the Windows operating system or is installed through the Windows Update feature on your computer. You do not need to download anything from a website in order to print, scan, or fax.

Went through it all - it was all going swimmingly and I thought we'd cracked it, but it is still not printing. The test pages just backed up and on my screen, it said the printer was offline, however, on my printer, it is saying online and wifi connected with the IP address floating across it. I just don't understand why this has all happened? I have bee using it without error for several years. Please advise as to what to do next?

There is no issue with the Dropbox digital signature. That Windows warning message appears when trying to load drivers signed with a SHA-2 signature on older versions of Windows which only support SHA-1 signatures. Microsoft deprecated SHA-1 signatures in 2019. During the transition period from SHA-1 to SHA-2 Dropbox used to sign their driver with both SHA-1 and SHA-2 signatures, but now only sign with SHA-2.

Does the desktop version automatically update itself? My system icon tray says DBX at 194.4.6267 I typically shut off automatic updates when running on an older unsupported Windows for this reason. My environment may be old, but it's stable and new stuff can easily cause havoc.
