Youdo understand that the OHV engine has an OHC.......right? Unless it's a 2 stroke or rotary engine, it's got OHV, which means the honda with it's OHC is an OHV engine. The displacements are different due to some of the bores being 125cc and others around 197.4 just like the honda OHC engine.
Bore is smaller by about 2 mm also. Put it in a stock Lifan engine and I'm afraid your piston would be so loose that no seal would be had....good thing too, cause at speed it would last about 2-seconds before it flew apart because of the thrashing.
This still leaves the question of the cam interchanging, which would be a key item in final performance modifications listed above. There are cam companies that will take your stock cam, weld it up and regrind it.
Back to one of the original questions at the start of this thread. I too would like to hear from someone who has experience with this engine apart for an actual comparison of the two engines instead of just speculation and guessing.
pullin-gs, would you please mind sharing with us where you are getting your specifications for the DB07A OHC engine that is the basis of discussion in this thread, or are you still quoting specs for the Lifan OHV "pushrod" engine as in your previous post?
I have been following your Chinese Bike post from the beginning and you seem to be one of the most knowledgeable owners of these bikes. You are a very good researcher and always seem to have correct answers to questions asked about these bikes. I respect your dedication to promoting the value and usefulness of Chinese bikes as well as their fun factor. I value the information that you provide as well as your opinions, and in no means was I trying to turn this thread into a pissing contest.
I own 2 -XR200's a CRF230 and a FTR223. In addition I currently have 3-XR200 engines apart on the work bench awaiting performance parts. One of the engines will be getting the full treatment with a stroker crank from an ATC-200X, which will require the spacer between the barrel and engine case.
I also realize that most China Bike owners here on TT purchased their machines for economical transportation or light off-road recreation, which after all is what they were intended for. However, sooner or later, the desire for just a little more power or speed always starts coming into mind.
If anyone knows where I can get one of the Lifan 163FML OHC engines for a decent price, something like pullin paid for his spare engine $225+$45 shipping, please let me know. I would like to buy one for internal comparisons to Honda. I'm even willing to consider Evil Bay if the seller has a good track record. Karl
I have the photos saved of both of your engines, the OHC in your bike and the spare OHV that is setting collecting dust. Yours are the only pics I have ever seen of either engines with any of the covers off.
I paid real close attention to your clutch side cover because I wanted to find out if it was possibly to use one on my XR200 so that I could view the oil level in the little window. That way, on real dusty days I wouldn't have to pull the dip stick out all the time and risk getting dirt into my engines.
If so, was it a pita to get the screws out, like the Honda's, and how much crud was there to wipe out? Also, if you used an XR200 gasket to put it back together, did it fit right up or did you have to trim some?
