My name is Frédéric Yves Moro. I am a French interior designer/contractor. I design for all types of clients, and I enjoy creating 3D models, scenes and then developing them into reality. I have been using Google SketchUp for 3 years now and Twilight Render for a year. I do all my post processing with Neat Image and ACDSee Pro. This brief tutorial will take you through my process of creating this interior render. Model is available for download here.
Inside SketchUp, I setup the camera position, to get the view I want, and the shadow position. The shadow position is really important to give life to your scene. Twilight Render will render the scene with the sun position setup in SketchUp.
After leaving it over night to cook, I have my first render. I have to say that I have an old computer; you could probably have the same result with a better computer in 2 hours I think. Next I save my image, and now I am ready for a very short post process.
Thank you, this rendering is really great and works much better than V-Ray, no doubt (including rendering in 3ds max and Maya), because it is less pixelate and easier to control. Even with maximum image of 800/600px, still gets the job done.
Is there a way to adjust the size of the Background image ? When rendering in Twilight Render, the background image always appears too large, making the scenery in the Background image seem too close to the model ?

Twilight Render is a photorealistic 3D rendering system for GoogleSketchUp, or shall we say just SketchUp, created as a plugin for the latter software. It integrates seamlesslyinto the program, and allows you to render your model whole working natively in the SketchUp interface. Then,the rendering engine is the product of the same people who created Kerkythea, which means a very healthy doseof awesomeness.
Twilight dynamically allocates cores for rendering, and its overall speed is comparable to its brother product,Kerkythea. However, the real fun is when you start editing thematerials. In this regard, Twilight uses the same logic as its family. You can select one of the materials fromthe model and then use a different texture from an existing basic set.

The eruption of Krakatoa in 1883, for instance, resulted in vibrant and even lurid sunsets that were observed worldwide. The iconic painting "The Scream" by Edvard Munch, created in 1893, possibly depicts a realistic portrayal of the sky during that time. More recently, the 2008 eruption of Kasatochi produced spectacular twilight effects. However, it's important to note that volcanoes are not always responsible for these captivating displays. Twilights can exhibit a range of fascinating phenomena, such as twilight arches, stratospheric rays and shadows, and even the elusive purple light, at various times.
To witness the full spectrum of colors during a volcanic twilight, it is recommended not to fixate solely on the sunset sky. Instead, try this technique: Turn away from the sunset and direct your gaze towards a dark area for about 30 seconds. Then, swiftly turn your attention back to the twilight sky. You might be astounded by the array of colors that await you. This method allows your eyes to adjust and perceive the nuances of the twilight hues more effectively.
February 15: After sunset, the western sky glows with a band of strongly yellow-straw colors, creating what is known as the "twilight arch." This phenomenon occurs when sunlight, reddened by its long path through the atmosphere, illuminates the stratosphere. Dust and aerosols then scatter the rays downward, creating a magnificent display.

Unveiling the Purple Light: The formation of the purple light during volcanic twilights is a result of high-altitude rays passing through rarified air that is not reddened. Ozone further enhances this effect, rendering the rays bluish. Aerosols play a crucial role by scattering both types of rays to our eyes, creating a mixture that appears purple.
Raikoke's Influence: The eruption of Raikoke sends dust and sulfur dioxide high into the stratosphere. Subsequently, the gaseous sulfur dioxide reacts with water vapor to form tiny aerosol droplets of sulfuric and sulfurous acids. These droplets are only about 1 micron in diameter but scatter sunlight more effectively than dust, intensifying the visual impact of volcanic twilights.
