My Enima is running firmware v4.0.3 (working fine). I followed the instructions for firmware upgrade, gabbed and installed the STM tool, downloaded FW412.
Set the switch to program.
On windows I get device unrecognised messages and the STM code says it can't find the device.
OK, try a different way
Installed the STM tool on an M4 Macbook Air. Loads and runs OK. But will not recognise the enigma device
I have tried with the enigma plugged in before running the STM tool and plugging it in when the tool is running
All with the same result.
Reading thru the forum posts it seems everyone is successfully upgrading firmware. Which means it must be something I'm doing??
Any thoughts? Inputs? Any other info needed from me?

regards Pete

Hi Pete, after setting the Enigma touch to "Prog" mode, did you also press the power button on the Enigma touch? Setting the little slide switch will only tell the microcontroller in which mode to start after the next reset or power cycle; it will not actually turn the system on yet.

When following the steps in the sequence described in the Enigma touch instructions (set slide switch, make USB connection, press power button), you may have to press the power button relatively quickly, within 1 or 2 seconds  after connecting the Enigma touch. Otherwise the PC or Mac may already "lose patience" with the connected device since it does not get a USB response.

If your Enigma touch has a battery installed, you can change the sequence of steps: Set slide switch SW35, press the power button, then connect the USB cable to the PC. That way, the boot loader on the Enigma touch is already up and running when you connect it to the PC, and none of the steps are time-critical.

Fingers crossed that this was the stumbling block!
Regards, Jürgen

Danke, Jurgen

I knew it would be a layer 8 problem.
I had successfully fitted a battery and the charge light fooled me

Once the USB was plugged in that light came on (as it should, charging the battery) but my brain went "it's on"

Connect USB, hit power button, click program , download verified successully.
I used the "Modell" method t check the now running firmware is V4.1.2

It must be hard to make allowances for an old bloke's brain fade

regards
Peter

Hey, I'm glad to read that the update worked now!

Yes, that power/charging LED invites misunderstandings -- especially since it can actually have either function, depending on how the solder jumper is set. The original plan was to have a two-color LED in that position which can combine both indicator functions; but unfortunately these are not available in the required inverted package. So the Enigma touch will continue to present its own little Enigma there...

Best,
Jürgen
