Hi all,
The Maritime Radio Historical Society has sent out an Enigma transmission the last few years and it's a lot of fun. In fact I bought my Enigma Touch largely to aid decoding this year's transmission.

Detailed information about this year's event is now available. See this link for details.

If you don't have a radio that can receive the transmission or are in a location where you can't hear the KPH signal, you might try listening to one of the many KiwiSDR public stations.

Enjoy!

Very nice, thank you for sharing!

Being based in Europe, probably the "receive CW from California" part will be the biggest hurdle for me. I am a licensed ham but have not been QRV for years -- my starting point will be to rig up a wire in the garden, I guess... Found the frequency list for KPH at https://www.radiomarine.org/mrhs-operations. I reckon that 17 MHz or 12.8 MHz would be my best bets? Any recommendations from active hams are appreciated!

What I didn't find on the MRHS website is an indication of the CW speed used for the transmission. This would be good to know to figure out whether I stand a chance to read it myself, or whether I should think about a decoder (or focus on the RTTY transmission). Did I overlook that detail on the website, or is it known from prior MRHS Enigma events?

I am tempted to get the E311 receiver out, to properly receive this with tubes!
Cheers, Jürgen

Jürgen,
I would think the frequencies you mention are your best shot at receiving the signal locally. If receiving locally is too daunting, do look into KiwiSDR as you can stream a receiver closer to California via the web.

I don't know the exact speed of the transmission in previous years, but I seem to recall it was in the 20wpm realm.

Love the idea of receiving on the E311!

Just a reminder that this is tomorrow (for me) August 30 at 2000 GMT for those interested!

The KiwiSDR site can be used to listen to the broadcast and tonight I realized it even has a CW decoder if your copy skills have lapsed! I can't speak as to the quality of the decoder.

Good luck if you make the attempt!
