UPDATE 1 unsolved : so i realized i didnt have the new dlcpacks installed into x64 on my mods folder... so i added them in in hopes that would help but this did not help with the new update.rpf or my old one... still crashing with new update.rpf untouched inside of mods folder also tried my old+new dlclist file (with my modded vehicles) in both common and update locations in my mods folder... no success. ctd.

Gta 5 Update.rpf Download

Download --->>> https://vittuv.com/2yXc6j

the only issue i am having is i can not successfully launch the game with update.rpf in my mods folder... weither it is the latest version, my old version, or a mix of my modded files thrown into the new update.rpf

............ so where i wrote problem file when i pull that file out i can successfully launch my game...
when i put the new update.rpf from rockstar in right there... it crashes... thus no matter what i do
the game crashes with the file weither its old or not.

Obviously if you overwrote your working reverted 1868 update.rpf you are out of luck. You can't mod without update.rpf. So you'll need to start from scratch unless you have backups. Never allow OpenIV to update your Update.rpf after a patch if you want to play reverted.

I can't answer why the update.rpf is crashing your game but it could be the gameconfig.xml. If vanilla, you need to install the mod. And the mod needs to match your version of the game and often requires experimentation.

or downloading a cracked version with the same version (look below about Steam Depot), taking every rpf files at the root folder, then taking the update and x64 folder alltogether, leaving any .dll and .exe along with every other folders, and then copying your newly taken update.rpf into your mods folder and trying to launch the game.

what i was explaining in here is that i am even trying to launch version 28xx update.rpf in the mods folder and that alone is causing ctd on load... when i pull that file out of mods folder then i can load the game with any and all other folders in ... even x64 modded to smithereens, common, and several x64(LETTER) folders. all inside of the mods folder...

i think all in all i will have to start from scratch like you and i agree one... but maybe i can somehow do it with a frankenbuild. the biggest thing that is frustrating is i have mods that modded my 1868.1 config file... i made careful thought out modifications to several lone files in update.rpf ... from material updates to fire updates.. making things burn differently ... with an aim to make gta 5 more realistic i achieved that with the ambition to release content to the community... i never did due to what ever mental shit i was going through and lacking the gumption to finish through... on top of all this then there are config mods i did in there... i cant remember all this since covid my brain got a little torched from it. im sure i would have forgot anyway moving on to new shit. but its just precious stuff in there i didnt want to lose.

Can you go to update\update.rpf\common\data and check version.txt ? Then do the same with the one inside mods folder and see are those 2 are same? Keep in mind, whichever game version you are using, the [VERSION_NUMBER] must be same. For example my game version is 1.0.2372.0 , and my [VERSION_NUMBER] shows 2372-dev_ng_Live .

After I updated from 1868 to 2372, I was created 2 folders in my PC, named with each version's numbers. Then I extracted every modified files from update.rpf . Then I was compared them with the same files from 2372's and merged the ones that wasn't same. For example in some of the 2372's meta files, there were additional lines that didn't exist in 1868's same meta files. So if you just overwrite those with old ones, game won't find those new lines and will crash. That's why those need to be merged instead of overwritten.

Since the modified and original metas will be different, I would suggest comparing the 2 original metas of each version instead. Say it is handling.meta for instance. Create a folder in your game's root folder, you can call it 1868. Then place the original 1868 update.rpf in it (hoping you still have it or at least can get it).

Afterwards make 2 folders in your pc named with each version's numbers like I mentioned, drag and drop the handling.meta from both update.rpfs and compare them. If Notepad++ says the 2 files are identical, it means the handling.meta in 1868 and in 28xx are same, so the handling.meta in the 28xx's update.rpf can be safely overwritten by your old modified 1868 handling.meta .

Feels complicated while reading but when you use it and be familiar, it is quite an easy process. It was took me just a day to completely carry over and merge my modified files from old 1868 update.rpf to the new 2372 update.rpf and I was being lazy

@JohnFromGWN True, the version.txt on root folder doesn't reflect the real game version. Not sure why is there, perhaps it needed in the past, obsolete in the present. The one inside update.rpf is always proper version though

@MissySnowie to answer your last question for me. the update.rpf i was trying to load up was a current vanilla version thats why i was so terribly confused.
i couldnt understand why i could launch with so many folders in the "mods folder" example
common
x64
x64 a - w (10 of the letter folders)

when i was trying to launch this up everything i was trying to use was current. the entire game version was updated to 2845 and the update.rpf file i was trying to use was 2845 as well.
so i couldnt even place a vanilla up to date version of update.rpf inside mods folder... that alone is why i posted this thread.

okay so just like everyone else i was crashing and getting error 16... i got the bypass and all that and the game was coming to i was like oh sweet im getting somewhere... but id still crash while loading the game. which i understood to be normal.\nso i made sure i had updated files and downloaded the new scripthook V and i still crashed.
\ni was like okay imma try something. so i pulled out all my scripts to try 1 by 1... still crash.\nokay threw them back in... pulled out the mods folder.... BAM game loaded.\nfrom there i threw in an empty mods folder and 1 folder until i got the crash again starting with x64(letter) folders... i put them all in... game loaded in ready to play... SWEET!\nso then i put in common and x64 in ... still would load great... * so far ive got modifications in every one of these folders *\nso then i threw in the update folder.... WHAMOH! crash.\nokay dayme... i pulled out update.rpf ....... game loaded in ready to play...\nso i found the issue there no surprise to me. i proceeded to try each folder in the file but i would get crashes every single time until i deleted everything out of the folder... but then id just get an infinite load screen with the pointer words (i) you see during the load screen.\nthe oddity is here. i pulled out my update.rpf folder... and went to the current one and copied it to mods folder... and i still crash.\nso it seems like having the update.rpf inside of mods folder at all causes 1 issues... and causes CTD upon loading.\nanyone have any ideas how to overcome this or fix it all together? lol other than playing a different game or modless gta? \nUPDATE 1 unsolved : so i realized i didnt have the new dlcpacks installed into x64 on my mods folder... so i added them in in hopes that would help but this did not help with the new update.rpf or my old one... still crashing with new update.rpf untouched inside of mods folder also tried my old+new dlclist file (with my modded vehicles) in both common and update locations in my mods folder... no success. ctd.\nbtw my prior to the latest update that broke reverting... i had a fully functional game i could play to my hearts content with 0 crashing ever. hours and hours. that was even this year... this version was a reverted version back to 1868.1 worked flawlessly until the evil update.\n","tid":"41751","timestamp":"1686259229398","deleted":false,"editor":"uid":"81911","username":"dodgeboy121","userslug":"dodgeboy121","uid":"81911","upvotes":0,"downvotes":0,"votes":0,"timestampISO":"2023-06-08T21:20:29.398Z","editedISO":"2023-06-08T22:17:03.518Z","index":0,"user":"uid":"81911","username":"dodgeboy121","fullname":"","userslug":"dodgeboy121","reputation":"6","postcount":"35","picture":"","signature":"","banned":false,"status":"offline","lastonline":"1701337480285","groupTitle":null,"icon:text":"D","icon:bgColor":"#607d8b","lastonlineISO":"2023-11-30T09:44:40.285Z","custom_profile_info":[],"bookmarked":false,"upvoted":false,"downvoted":false,"selfPost":false,"display_edit_tools":false,"display_delete_tools":false,"display_moderator_tools":false,"display_move_tools":false,"display_post_menu":0},"edited":"1686264573443","timestamp":"1686264382922","deleted":false,"pid":"201069","content":"@dodgeboy121
\nThat is really hard to follow.
\nYou installed the bypass mod but made sure your game was updated? The purpose of the bypass mod is so that you don't need to update. It's to allow reverted play.\nUnfortunately if you want to play with something as old as 1868, R* now prevents that unless you go the crack route and risk getting infected.\nI suggest you do a verify integrity, ensure your vanilla game is stable, and then start to mod from scratch. You've made so many changes, trial and error, not a good situation.\nProper Mod installation: -your-mod-journey-starts-here.html\nTroubleshooting:

\nWhen you have a reverted game, you don't need to update update.rpf. Because as someone who used to play with exact 1.0.1868.1 version for a long while, I can say for sur update2.rpf was never a thing.\nNot that using it was causing a crash on my end, but you are missing some steps or did something wrong in the past you forgot now.\nHere is my suggestion for you;\n

    \n
  1. In game folder backup all your asi files and the scripts folder, then delete all those except OpenIV.asi and dinput8.dll.\n
  2. Backup your mods folder and delete it completely.\n
  3. Make a new mods folder. Create a folder named update in it, and copy your ORIGINAL update.rpf file in it.\n\n
      \n
    • \nIf the game works, well, you need to do troubleshooting steps to find the problematic file.\n\n
    • \nIf the game still crashes, your original game files have somehow modified. Since rokstar doesn't allow to play in reverted versions, it is unfixable unless you backed up your entire gta folder before at it's pure original state.\n\n\nUnfortunately your only options would be;\n
        \n
      • \nEither switching to cracked version alltogether.\n\n
      • \nor downloading a cracked version with the same version (look below about Steam Depot), taking every rpf files at the root folder, then taking the update and x64 folder alltogether, leaving any .dll and .exe along with every other folders, and then copying your newly taken update.rpf into your mods folder and trying to launch the game.\n\n
      • \nIf you take the 1st way, well, not much to explain.\n\n
      • \nIf you take the 2nd way, you just need to hope all your original dll and exe files are untouched and all from 1868 version. If so, game will run without problem.\n\n\nNow about this Steam Depot thingy, I'm not really sure how it exactly works but I guess it's a site you can legally download game files from older version. Except the exe and dll files, other stuff you download (the ones I mentioned that you need to replace) are gonna be identical with rockstar version.\nAlso a little info, If I remember correctly, in the rockstar version of the game, at 1868 version, there are 42 files+folders in the root game folder. So you can use that as a reference while cleaning out everything that is not from original game installation. Change the sorting of the files to Date too, it will give you a good sight which files are came after the game's original installation. So you can easily spot, backup and delete those.\nIt's gonna be a tedius process for you I feel although it can be fixed eventually.\nEdit; This can help with finding the modded files;\n\n","toPid":"201066","timestamp":"1686353645826","deleted":false,"editor":"uid":"320317","username":"MissySnowie","userslug":"missysnowie","uid":"320317","upvotes":0,"downvotes":0,"votes":0,"timestampISO":"2023-06-09T23:34:05.826Z","editedISO":"2023-06-09T23:44:33.756Z","index":6,"parent":"username":"dodgeboy121","user":"uid":"320317","username":"MissySnowie","fullname":"","userslug":"missysnowie","reputation":"346","postcount":"583","picture":"","signature":"Be kind to all kinds ???????️??\n","banned":false,"status":"offline","lastonline":"1701478545032","groupTitle":null,"icon:text":"M","icon:bgColor":"#f44336","lastonlineISO":"2023-12-02T00:55:45.032Z","custom_profile_info":[],"bookmarked":false,"upvoted":false,"downvoted":false,"selfPost":false,"display_edit_tools":false,"display_delete_tools":false,"display_moderator_tools":false,"display_move_tools":false,"display_post_menu":0,"downvotes":0,"edited":"1686361247711","replies":"users":["uid":"320317","username":"MissySnowie","userslug":"missysnowie","picture":"","icon:text":"M","icon:bgColor":"#f44336","status":"offline","administrator":false,"banned":false,"banned_until":0,"banned_until_readable":"Not Banned","email:confirmed":false],"timestampISO":"2023-06-10T02:17:29.407Z","count":1,"pid":"201092","tid":"41751","upvotes":1,"content":"@MissySnowie Thank you very much for this detailed comment i will embark up this Journey slowly, but ever i would like to get this version going. i have 400 cars with custom handling lines and i miss playing with them because i spend around 1700 hours creating them. also i saw something released a 53-54 corvette.. i can finally complete my corvette series as i made handling lines for all the other corvettes...\ni did update the game that is why im running 2850 or what ever version we are one... higher in a few days.
\noddly i have all scripts and mod added directory files in there and they launch... even with older lua and scripthook files they all load in still... but since im running version 28xx that is why i am trying to launch in update2.rpf....\nwhat i was explaining in here is that i am even trying to launch version 28xx update.rpf in the mods folder and that alone is causing ctd on load... when i pull that file out of mods folder then i can load the game with any and all other folders in ... even x64 modded to smithereens, common, and several x64(LETTER) folders. all inside of the mods folder...\nso what im gathering is i can make all those changes... but when i make a change to x64's dlcpacks... there is no issue... so all the cars ive worked on should be fine and maybe i can rebuild and throw them in a new frankenbuild.\neven so i just dont understand why i cant launch without ctd on loading... with a fresh straight from steam downloaled update/update.rpf folder inside\nwhen it comes to back ups im one of those freaks that has like 10 of my previous versions all backed up on external harddrives ... a matter of fact thats what i use to do... id force update from stream and then drop in my old exes and then launch in forced offline mode... i could do that by commandline.txt ... but only if i opened R* launch with steam OFF completely ... then id attempt to launch game from R* they would say oh im sorry but you need to update this crap file... then id shut off and log out the launch... then open steam and launch GTAV ... from there R* launch would open in offline mode due to the command line... at that point the game would successfully load... i did this for about 2 years since 2020 before taking a break from playing gta5.\ni think all in all i will have to start from scratch like you and i agree one... but maybe i can somehow do it with a frankenbuild. the biggest thing that is frustrating is i have mods that modded my 1868.1 config file... i made careful thought out modifications to several lone files in update.rpf ... from material updates to fire updates.. making things burn differently ... with an aim to make gta 5 more realistic i achieved that with the ambition to release content to the community... i never did due to what ever mental shit i was going through and lacking the gumption to finish through... on top of all this then there are config mods i did in there... i cant remember all this since covid my brain got a little torched from it. im sure i would have forgot anyway moving on to new shit. but its just precious stuff in there i didnt want to lose.\nanyway sorry for the rambling novel. thanks for caring.\n","toPid":"201089","timestamp":"1686360806400","deleted":false,"editor":"uid":"81911","username":"dodgeboy121","userslug":"dodgeboy121","uid":"81911","votes":1,"timestampISO":"2023-06-10T01:33:26.400Z","editedISO":"2023-06-10T01:40:47.711Z","index":7,"parent":"username":"MissySnowie","user":"uid":"81911","username":"dodgeboy121","fullname":"","userslug":"dodgeboy121","reputation":"6","postcount":"35","picture":"","signature":"","banned":false,"status":"offline","lastonline":"1701337480285","groupTitle":null,"icon:text":"D","icon:bgColor":"#607d8b","lastonlineISO":"2023-11-30T09:44:40.285Z","custom_profile_info":[],"bookmarked":false,"upvoted":false,"downvoted":false,"selfPost":false,"display_edit_tools":false,"display_delete_tools":false,"display_moderator_tools":false,"display_move_tools":false,"display_post_menu":0,"replies":"users":["uid":"232117","username":"JohnFromGWN","userslug":"johnfromgwn","picture":"","icon:text":"J","icon:bgColor":"#673ab7","status":"offline","administrator":false,"banned":false,"banned_until":0,"banned_until_readable":"Not Banned","email:confirmed":false],"timestampISO":"2023-06-10T13:33:45.017Z","count":1,"pid":"201093","content":"@dodgeboy121 You are welcome \nI want to understand something. The update.rpf you downloaded from Steam, are you sure it is the same update.rpf in your original folder?\nCan you go to update\\update.rpf\\common\\data and check version.txt ? Then do the same with the one inside mods folder and see are those 2 are same? Keep in mind, whichever game version you are using, the [VERSION_NUMBER] must be same. For example my game version is 1.0.2372.0 , and my [VERSION_NUMBER] shows 2372-dev_ng_Live .\nIf the update.rpf you have in your mods folder have mods installed from 1868 version of the game, it is near guaranteed to crash your game.\nAfter I updated from 1868 to 2372, I was created 2 folders in my PC, named with each version's numbers. That's why those need to be merged instead of overwritten.\nI would suggest you to check those 2 update.rpfs and see are those identical and their versions corresponds to the gta5.exe's version.\nIf they are indeed identical and versions match to exe, then my suggestion would be to a fresh install of the game.\nSince you have backups, no need to worry about your customized handlings. You can use them quite easily once the crash problem is sorted out.\nYou can use Notepad++ to compare those meta files. Just download Compare plugin to it (from the Plugins Admin), open the 2 and run a comparison.\nSince the modified and original metas will be different, I would suggest comparing the 2 original metas of each version instead. Say it is handling.meta for instance. Create a folder in your game's root folder, you can call it 1868. Then place the original 1868 update.rpf in it (hoping you still have it or at least can get it).\nAfterwards make 2 folders in your pc named with each version's numbers like I mentioned, drag and drop the handling.meta from both update.rpfs and compare them. If Notepad++ says the 2 files are identical, it means the handling.meta in 1868 and in 28xx are same, so the handling.meta in the 28xx's update.rpf can be safely overwritten by your old modified 1868 handling.meta .\nIf however Notepad++ shows red/green/yellow marked lines between 2 original files, it means that file shouldn't be overwritten as the newly added/modified lines will be overwritten as well
